Icon4 need more power for my sol - header, how much hp?

Hey I have a ninety four del sol w/b16a3 DOHC pulling 160hp. It seemed like a fast car but then I put a bunch of audio equipment into it and all the weight - few hundred pounds - slowed it down.

I want my fast car back, and I can't take out the audio equipment out. How can I easily add about fourty horsepower? I was thinking Megan racing header and AEM intake for a few hundred bucks. How much horsepower might this add to my motor?

The car is entirely stock except enkei lightweight rims and has a hundred and fifty thousand miles on it so I don't want to spend a bunch.

thanks so much, i searched but couldn't find anything like my question.

i would just boost. it will give you WAY more than 40hp.

yea. headers and intake will help.
depending on what type of intake you want(short ram, cold air or front mount) prices will vary

you won't get 40 hp from a simple header and intake setup, you might be able to get away with 40hp with a jackson racing supercharger

you would be lucky to get 5 hp from that header and intake.

ya 40whp with a JR superchager for around lets say $1500 for a used one....or you can go with a greddy turbo set up for about the same and get it tuned and make an easy 250whp safely with a good tune.....think about it 40whp for $1500 or over 100whp for $1500

Getting a lot more power from your B16A3 is expensive, even just 40 hp. There simply isn't any horsepower "laying around" to be freed up. The way they are engineered, these dual cam VTEC motors are making nearly maximum hp right from the factory.

1. Forced Induction (turbo/supercharger)
2. build NA (high comp. pistons, aggressive cams, P+P, ITBs etc.)
3. Nitrous Oxide ()

thanks for the quick replies. Seems like a turbo is the only way to get the power I want..

I'm seeing turbo kits for three thousand usd, but nothing for fifteen hundred. Where can I get a cheap turbo setup? Don't say ebay plz...

thanks, merry christmas

I have seen ebay turbo kits in people's cars online.

They said they really liked it.

But that's because they knew what they had to replace and knew what they were doing..
Research, research, research.

Ya dont do ebay $800 turbo, it really is too good to be true. If you know your stuff you can piece one together and get by for about $2000 or so I guess on the low end. That little B16 lacks in torque which is what you need. I mean, Omniman did the 200whp B16a and that was a stretch for a seasoned veteran engine builder, and that set up only made 117wtq. Just remember weight affects acceleration, cornering, and braking, hp only affects acceleration.

I hope "a few hundred pounds" of audio equipment is sarcasm. Because that's ridiculous when you consider an amplifier weighs 2-10 pounds, wiring another 2-10 pounds...the only 'heavy' component would be the subwoofer(s)...and even so, a few hundred lbs worth? Come on.

Buying a header (no matter how good it is) will net you +2hp. Maximum. Not to mention it won't be power all across the board, certain parts of the rev band will experience a decrease in power.

eBay turbo kits have some useable components. But at the VERY least the turbo will need to be replaced. Intercooler piping, on the other hand, is just aluminum pipe, whether it says "Greddy" on it or not is irrelevant.

I have a question for you. Not to offend, just curious. Do you know the difference between flywheel Horsepower and wheel horsepower? You said your B16A3 has 160 HP, and you don't even have a header. So its obvious you meen flywheel horsepower. What you're enjoying is actually more around the lines of 133-138 ish WHEEL horsepower. The reason I state this is so you can have more realistic Horsepower goals. Be careful if you read " this header will yield 20 hp!!" Usually they are inflated and they are estimated flywheel hp guesses.

Establish your goals, and you will very likely find ALL the info you need to achieve it, right here in H-T Good luck!

Don't think you can throw some headers and intake then get that power back. I got four CRV Kickers customed fit in my trunk with two kicker 750 RMS amps and in the car I have 2 6/9 infinity speakers and two 6 1/2 infinity speakers pushed by a 250 x 4 kenwood amp. My sound system made my car heavy and I thought I could buy headers and a cold and air intake to get that lil power I had before. All it does is make your car sound loud. Boost!! Thats the route Im going

you wont get much out of some headers
headers are more for like torque.
Turbo would be nicer

Are you like... trying to sit backwards or something? lol

OP: 150k miles is nothing... just turbo it
