Need joe help easy question, no CAT...
Ey whatup g's. I just got my LS swap done (or in the process) with a act extreme clutch and tein super-street suspension. I was too lazy to install the suspension cuz I just finished one on a 240, but it was $900 for it so who cares if its installed . Anyways, I'm pretty broke right now, and I did emissions one day before they started swapping the motor in, and I'm curious as to whether I should run the motor without a cat with the stock dx/cx exhaust (i've heard it bolts on right?) or run my credit card and get a tanabe for $350 and cut it to fit the b18b.
-Is no-cat on stock exhaust too loud?
-Will I make decent power without the cat and stock exhaust?
I love having a sleeper look, yeah, you get my point.
Thanks yo.

Re: Need joe help easy question, no CAT... (sk!tz0)
Well, from my experience, no cat is loud and raspy sounding. I also think that I burnt my sohc d16y7 up because of the lack of back pressure. Then again that could of been from bad timing or fuel problems and humidity combined. I would buy a cat and install it. You could get an aftermarket cat and still have good flow. If you get a silencer you wouldn't have to worry too much about the sound much. Correct me guys, if I'm wrong.

See I'm kind of broke, so using no cat with stock DX exhaust is free, but buying hi-flow cat with exhaust is pricey!

just run that setup until u have the money.
btw, i'm running 2.5'' mandrel, no cat, straight thru muffler...and it's actually not that loud.

Lol RK you rule! If I didn't state so I just got my emissions done the day before the swap started, so I'm not necissarily concerned with the law unless it sounds like some v8 ford truck running straight pipes. Oh, and RK, your custom exhaust setup, have you ever been pulled over for it? Some people think diffrently of what loud means, so I gots to ask. Peace
oo.. and would you happen to know if a Tanabe exhaust bolts on to a b18b w/o a cat and fits? I assume that with the swap the headers extend too far for it to fit normally and you gotta cut it, word.

I haven't been pulled over for it yet...i've had the setup for about a month now.
I did have another setup before for about 8months...2.5'' crushbent, high flow cat, and a thermal straight thru muffler...that was actually louder (thermal is loud). Didn't get pulled over.
My muffler is also painted black, it's es oval style, doesn't stand out much.
