Default Need input from 96-00 coupe and EM1 owners on exhaust decision.

The title kinda gives the rundown...

... I am the very happy owner of en ebp EM1 that I have recently installed a oem style rear lip on.

I have just finished completing a full gsr swap in my car, and I am in the market for an exhaust. I have been torn between the greddy evo2 style (large can and tip, but tucked and straight exit) and the apexi N1 or HKS hi-power style (canister style with upward and outward exit).

I would prefer the canister style, but only if it will clear the rear lip and still retain an upward and outward exit. I am interested in sound, performance, and style... pretty much in that order, but I am asking from help from all the experts on here.

Please give me all of your thoughts on this matter... and if possible, please post some pics of your exhausts as examples....

Thank you in advance.

Why would you buy an EM1 and swap a GSR motor in it? Why diidn't you just do a poor man's R? I'm at a loss for words. . .

I have the Apexi N1 turbo on my EJ8, sound is ok, performance is nice, looks great. no pics for you

To answer the first question, the car was boosted, and I was able to sell the entire swap for enough to fund my gsr motor (local shop had one and I talked them way down on the price), pay off my car, and get my front and rear lips ordered, shipped, painted, and installed. It was the right thing to do at the time.

As for the input on the exhaust... thank you. I like the Apexi N1, but I have only seen a couple of good pics of them on cars. And I have honestly NEVER heard one in person. I hear that they are loud and raspy.

... MORE INPUT PLEASE ...

I have an EJ8 and opted for the Greddy SP2...looks tight, nice low tone (not raspy), noticable performance over stock...no pics off hand

i got an og evo 1, on an 00 si was nice and low w/ stock header but now is a bit raspy in vtec with a edelbrock 4-2-1 header and a hi-flo cat on it... the stock one tucks well... you would probably only need to take it to a muffler shop the get the hangers lengthened to clear your lip

That's a pretty good deal. I would be surprised if you could get $3-4k for a boosted B16a2 since the motors are so plentiful these days, and a home-made turbo can be done for about $1500.

motor was sleeved by IPP, balanced, blueprinted, wiesco pistons, eagle rods, race bearings, arp head studs, ferrera valve-train, garrett ceramic ball bearing turbo set-up with blox minfold, precision 500+hp intercooler, driveshaft shop axles... yada yada yada. So, I made out good on the sale...

... and as I stated before, I talked a local shop way down on the gsr swap because they had it for a while and it needed a few things (all of which my friends had laying around).

all in all, I was happy with the sale... I only owed $16xx on the car. besides, now I will be able to put a/c back on the car again and be ready for the hot *** ga summers. HAHA!

2.5" exhaust/hi-flow cat/apexi n1 in a boosted d16. i havent heard too many other exhausts to compare it to, but i loved it. it is not raspy or loud. it is deep and gargly (sp)...atleast with my setup. it is also pretty quiet when you arent getting on it. definately a quality muffler. i believe the apexi n1 catback has an angeled exhaust which to me looks nice, so i would definately go with the catback if you planned on changing it all out. (someone correct me if im wrong)

2.5" straight pipe no muffler.
Well, that's what I ran at first. finally got a magnaflow on there. Sounds good and boost builds very quickly.

i personally have the 1st gen greddy evo catback
i would never put another exhaust on my car
low tone but a little growly when you get on it
greddy evo
greddy evo2 for SS
great tone
any other exhaust has too small of a can and cannot achieve the low sound instead of the high raspiness you usually get with the smaller cans
it's still a "straight-thru" design and it tucks nicely
i'll see what i can do for a audio clip
i'm not computer tech-apt

****..... in the exhaust testing they might not have necessarily made the most power but they usually made the most torque
greddy evo
