Default Need help on turbo d16

My first car i got is a 98 civic hatch dx, yes I know it is slow, so I spent time and money making it look good. I'm just a student and just trying to find a money saver power boost. I was wondering what changes and parts do I need if I wanted to boost my stock hatch? I'm only aiming for maybe a little over 200 horses on gain. My hatch has less then 78k on it. People was telling me to just buy a kit and bolt it, but it seems too easy. I was wondering if there is internals or anything else i should do to make it good but save money. Any info will help, from prices to type or brands of items i can buy, change, or do. Please help..

yeah just bolting on a turbo or a supercharge with a stock d16 will not go from 130 to 200 you have to definitally upgrade the cams and all that other stuff to make it more durable if not ur just gunna burn out the motor sooner. a good way to upgrade is start with cams and valvs. then slowly go from there. if you slap a turbo and put 10 to 15 punds on it youll burn rings fast.

^^ agreed!!
You should not have to do anything to the bottom end if you truly want to stay around 200 (220 max!!).
what head do you have on there? if you are running a y7, you may want to consider swapping a y8 head on, as this should help your cause.

most cost effective? piece together some different parts... get a good log manifold, and make sure it is or isnt a/c compatible (whatever your preference). Find a turbo first though, and build the rest accordingly. There are plenty of people on here that have boosted D's and will tell you the right places to start. I got everything I needed from most people I met here, or homemadeturbo... There are plenty of kits you can get, yes, but a decent kit is going to cost you some money. Get some used parts for your first project. Learn, then build it from there.
