Default need help with tranny

alright i recently swapped out my old tranny for a new well used tranny both ls tranny's, im running a 94 b18b1 motor on my 4 door eg. i changed my tranny because it started making this weird noise but the noise would go away as soon as i would push in the clutch? well anyways i changed trannys the clutch, is good, well back to the story, i put the axels in the half shaft i kinda struggled to put in kinda had to hit it in. so i put everything back together and was going to back up and when i tried the car wouldnt go i even let go of the clutch on reverse and it didnt stall or turn off, i can go into any gear without pushing the clutch. i purged the clutch i changed the seals on the tranny put in a little more than 2 quarts in the tranny, castrol 10w40. so any inputs?

Your old tranny problem was likely a throw-out bearing, a cheap fix. But on to this one, The only reason it would do this is if the clutch is disengauged or the input shaft may be broke. Since the clutch's "home" position is engauged im thinking its either internal or axles arent in somehow. Hence the car not moving, is there any grinding noise?

A throwout bearing does not make noise in the rest position, duh

That noise would be the input shaft bearing, and when you press the clutch in, the shaft stops turning, and thus the noise stops. $30 fix, if that.

Oh, Check your axles.....

(z6hatchboy) no theres no grinding the gears just go in kinda ruff, but then again i am putting them in without the clutch. axels are all the way in, the halfshaft im sure of cuz u gotta bolt that one on. i have the car on jack stands, i dont know if this should be happening but the wheels keep turning on neutrall, and when i hit reverse with the clutch in and start letting go of it, it makes that sound when ur going reverse but no reverse.
(slowcivic2k) yea im pretty sure my axels are in. and about the other tranny thanks ill change the input shaft. i was gonna sell it for 50 bucks haha i guess ill keep it.

Check to see if the axles are turning under the car while its chocked and in gear. Either the inner joint or the shaft itself should turn if its an axle problem. If not, I'd say you have an exploded differential, or at least something wrong inside the transmission.

Some wheel turning can be expected, even in neutral if all the weight is taken off the wheels, some internal drag keeps things going.
