Not unless its reaching the pressure needed to force the spring up in the rad cap. I think most caps need 12-16 lbs to open into the overflow bottle.

Just take the cap off and let it run for about 30 minutes, this will allow any air bubbles to escape the system. If the air bubbles don't seem to stop, you may have a bad head gasket.

You wont always get a bunch of white smoke. If its a small enough leak, you may not see any smoke at all.

Is there any oil in the coolant reservoir? You said this motor is boosted, its possible that the head lifted and stretched the head bolts. This may be the cause of the oil leak and the over heating.

Bleeding may take 20-30 minutes:
1) Park the car on an inclined driveway with the front end higher than the rear.
2) Push the dash heater lever/**** to MAX heat.
3) Follow the directions in the diagram below

When you put the valve cover gasket on, did you apply some permatex where the outter cam caps meet the head on both sides of all 4 outter caps?

There should be some RTV type sealant coming out from under the edge of the valve cover in these spots. You can see the cam caps a little better on the right side of the head.

Yea. Make sure all of the valve cover bolts are tight enough. It could be a faulty cam seal.
