Need Help with the SOHC!!!!
ok so the problem started monday morning leaving for school i tried to start my EJ1 and it wouldn't turn over eventually got it to turn over by pumping the shh...out of my gas. my neighbor who is a mechanic said it might be the fuel filter.
So today i changed the fuel filter changed the oil cause it needed to be done and it seems worse. Car boggs a little, it sputters, and it sounds like it backfires too. well i opened it up a little seemed like it helped a little but its still there. Really need some help any suggestions.
oh and its a D16Z6

When you mention you got it to turn over by pressing on the gas pedal. Do you mean just having the motor turn? Or the car actually starts up?
And you said when you open it up; it helped. What are you opening up?

check your dizzy too...my distributor went out on my sohc cam hatch and it wouldnt do ****. it would crank and crank but never start. i think i had it running maybe once or twice though...so idk. i changed the dizzy and its been running fine since. but check plugs first like everyone else has said...they are cheaper.

See if there is any oil on the tip of your spark plug. Sometime the seal that prevents oil from the head to spill back down onto the spark plug will go bad causing oil to spill down onto the spark plug. When that happens the oil can make its' way down into your cylinder if your spark plug is not tight and this will cause sputter.

OP do a tune up
spark plug wires
spark plugs
distributor cap and rotor
air filter
you already did fuel filter....
also sometimes if you're low on gas you need to let the fuel pump prime before you start it. I always turn my key to accessory, put on my seat belt (letting it prime), and then start my car. Saves the starter from unneccesory work... GL with the problem.

i always do that too...if you started it and didnt have alot of gas you mightve sucked **** into the fuel system or even gotten some air in there.
-tune up
-injector cleaner
-drive somewhere and stay around 3500~ rpm, that'll flush anything out
