Need Help: Severe rattling after replacing Valve Cover Gasket...
Hi everyone,
[Vehicle: 93 honda civic si h/b]
oil kept bleeding out and around my valve cover...so i went and installed a new valve cover gasket and spark plug seals (o-rings internal).
So after install and clean up, double check everything reconected and proper etc. let it sit for an hour to let silicone skin over.
then started it up and allowed it to reach normal opperating temparature. so far so good. then took it for a spin, pulled over and checked again, still good, then started to open it up - Max rpm 4500-5000.
Crud started hearing severe rattling. came home, in nutral slowly reved it up, and the horrible rattling occurred at 3200 & 3800 & 4200 rpm.
so im thinking, doh, didnt tighten valve cover bolts enough, cheked em an their nice and snug. (not too tight)
So this is where i now need the help, what the hell is that noise. My motor never ever made a noise b4 i decided to install the new valve cover gasket, if any one could help me (info), I would greatly appreciate it.
ps: - could it be torque down pattern, 5 bolts altogether, is there a specific pattern you are suppose to tighten it down, i was told that didtnt matter.
-----could it be a possible exhuast leak from center pipe(1year old) or my ageing catylitic converter(15 year old).

nuthin could have fallen into my motor, otherwise noise(rattling) would be constant.
hopefully just coinsidental exhaust leak...(sounds too good to be true though)
gonna inspect cat-conv and check back...
thanks for the replies and info

so adding a new VC gasket is gonna make it so ur conveter go bad all of a sudden or make an exhaust leak???? it just doesnt make any sense just take the VC back off go through it slowly look around for any thing that looks like it shouldnt be there and get back to us Ahhhlee

gonna have it checked out this weekend, will get back with cause & solution.

Personally, I'm voting for the 'bad muffler bearings'...
