So I have a 1999 Civic (see it at: http://www.taikahn.com/civic/) that I am about to replace the front two nittos on... they are loud as FCK, they whir and whine extremely loudly... can anyone give me a reccomendation on a 205/40/17 tire that is not loud and is not more than $120.

For tires that STICK: Dunlop FM901

For tires that last long: Kumho Ecsta Supra 712

My vote would be the 200 treadwear Dunlop FM901. They ride awesome and are nice and sticky - I've ridden on the 205-45-16 variety and they are nice.

Did I mention that the FM901 tires are cheaper too?

ill agree on that.. bridgestone re 730's are great tires.. but they do not come in that size i know this cause i work at tireshop and also tirerack.com does not have them. you can go w/ the bridgestone re s-03's.. they were rated the best tire in the SCC last month i think.. i dont know much about any other tires like nitto or kumho cause we dont sell them and im happy w/ my re730 i have on my car now..

btw if you do go w/ the bridgstone ill let you in on a little secret.. order them from costco (priceclub) thats where i work and we got a crucial road hazard warranty on them. if you get a nail in a z rated tire it cant be patched and most places will make you buy a new one, and we will give you a new one FREE!!

Seriously though, the guy who started this thread needs to ask what he really wants out of the tires.

In a 205-40-17 there are not but a few good sticky tires. You are limited to a few choices if you want a really good tire that is actaully performance oriented and not just performance look.

I've had the Falken Ziex ZE502 (which are now discontinued) and they SUCK.

Once you guys have driven on real performance tires (not just looks) then you will not be able to settle for hard-*** crap-tires.

But I guess not everyone wants sticky tires, right?

Hi, thanks everyone for the info so far...

I see that I need to provide more info.

Basically, I want tires that ARE NOT loud and ARE STICKY and WEAR WELL.

Some of you have made comments about the size... what size would you recommend and why? And will they fit on a 99 CIvic DX with 17" rims and sprint springs w/ a 2 1/2" drop.

By the way, the Altezza lights are already off the car. I hated them too.
