Default need help oil pan

ok i've been through 3 oil pan gaskets and my oil pan still leaks!!! i do exactly as the hayes book says 1/8 inch of rtv on both sides of the gasket and tighten in a spiral fashion, that is what i do and still no go. it will not leak for a couple of days but it always start to leak. and its not like drip drip, if i look under my car i can see oil on my cat, axles, everywhere. is pressure building up and causing it to blow out between the oil pan and block? need help PLEASE!!!!!

pounded the oip pan out to make sure it was flat and i dont have a torque wrench that will go down to 10 ft ilbs so i get them finger tight and 1/2 turn on the socket. someone told me i might have to much pressure which is causing it to push the gasket out, what could cause that amount of pressure?

Well don't use your torque wrench, get then finger tight, then tighten then with a regular ratchet until there tight.

but how do i know it is the oil pan? i don't think if there is a leak oil should be "spraying" all over the underside of my car.

Are you sure the leak is coming from the oil pan ? Is your oil filter on good ? Did you change it and the old gasket get stuck on there.

yeah im pretty sure its from the oil pan, there still is some leakage on the pan. the filter is a week old so it cant be that, does anyone know what could cause so much pressure to push out a oil pan gasket? i put super weatherstrip adheasive on there this time and it still seeps through. somebody has to know what is going on

Well it sounds to me like your tightening it down to hard, and if you tighten it down to much 1 time, then the oil pan is not level. So I would take it off and see how that looks.

Are you sure you did every thing correct ? If so then it sounds like your oil pan is not straight any more. Sounds like you might need a new one.

You NEED a torque wrench that will work for this. 1/2 turn is not 9 ft pounds I'll tell you that.

Clean the surfaces too.

Like around 80 bucks, ok so the surface is clean, it still sounds like your pan is warped in some spots.

No, I'm saying take the old pan off inspect it. See if you can level the surface back out. If not find a new oil pan. And tighten it, you don't need a torque wrench to do so, just make it like had tight using a ratchet. Make sure the oil is leaking out of the pan though.

Are you sure that the stuff that is sprayed all over the bottom of the car is oil. My CV joints are going out on both sides and they spray this brown oily greese all over the side of the oil pan and every where else under the engine. It almost looks as if the greese is dirty oil. I'm just throwing out some ideas.

When I helped my friend put in his oil pan on his Impreza, we used acetone to clean the bottom of the block and the top of the oil pan. We also use black rtv from our local auto parts store.
