Need help - LS swapped Civic guzzling gas, map sensor problem?
Hey guys. My friend is having a problem. 93 Civic DX w/ a 94 Integra Swap (complete with ECU), motor has about 110k miles on it or so.
Car was eating alot of gas, so he got the timing adjusted and did a valve adjustment. The mechanic he brought it to said that it might be the MAP sensor AND that the wiring at the ECU side is messed up. He also said that the ECU was running in back-up mode, therefore using more fuel.
Before he got the adjustments, the car was getting around 160-175 miles to the tank. After everything was done at the mechanics, he said that nothing changed with the car, and is still running pig rich.
Wiring on the car is fine (no wires were hacked or touched, since everything was plug n play), and the car is throwing NO codes. Could it just be a dirty MAP sensor? Also idle seems to be a little higher then normal, but the mechanic said that it was related to the ECU being in back-up mode.
Any insights or info? Need to get this problem resolved soon.
Thanks.

Could be the O2 sensors thinking the cat is bad. That will cause it to run in backup mode.

thats what i was thinking too....but the mechanic said that the O2 sensor was not the problem and that they were ok.
That was my first guess....thanks tho

thats what i told my friend, but his mechanic said that there were no codes, so i said it wasn't in safe mode.
any other ideas?

obd-1 doesnt control catalytic efficiency. im thinking its a out of range ect sensor. its probably reading cold at all times and causing the ecu to throw in more fuel. or the ecu that he gave you was on a car that was running really lean and the ecu was compensating and its pegged at rich fuel command

well...the ecu came from the same car as the motor. I'll see if i can find another LS ecu to try out on it.
