Need help identifying Civic EJ8/EK D16y8 Header/exhaust parts
Hello everyone
It's that time of year again where I gotta get my car to smog.
Problem is, i have aftermarket headers on my d16y8(4-2-1)
I'm going to replace my stock headers back on, but i'm not sure which are the parts are called.
From the engine, i need a new bezel? the part between the header(4 tubes) mounting on the engine.
And on the bottom of the car where the headers meet the midpipe?
I need to know the part where the o2 sensor is. Thanks, it's a metal circle piece.
Need info asap.

Re: Civic EJ8/EK D16y8 Header diagram
You'll need the following from those two diagrams:
Diag. 1)
18100-PEM-G00 002 001 MANIFOLD ASSY., EX.
36531-P2R-A01 005 001 SENSOR, FR. OXYGEN
Diag. 2)
18210-S01-A81 009 001 PIPE A, EX.
Also, it's "header", not "headers". Honda L4's only have one header.

The part I was looking for is actually #3 and could be 11 or 20. its a round metal piece that goes around the pipe to keep it in tightly.
What's #5 on this list? I seem to be missing that as well.
Will missing anything cause me to fail smog?

Re: Civic EJ8/EK D16y8 Header diagram
I posted two diagrams, but I'm going to assume you meant #3 on diagram 1 and #11/20 on diagram 2.
#3 on diagram 1 is your exhaust manifold gasket. You should already have one on your current header. If you don't...well, you should have one, and it's a miracle you aren't leaking exhaust like a sieve. As long as it's in good shape, you don't necessarily need to replace it.
OEM part # 18115-P2A-003 003 001 GASKET, EX. MANIFOLD (NIPPON LEAKLESS)
#11/20 on diagram 2 is called a crush gasket. Once again, you should already have one on your current header. If you don't have one, you ARE leaking exhaust like a sieve. You can get a cheap replacement at Autozone/Advance.
Part #5 on diagram 1 is your primary O2 sensor. If you don't have one of those...you'd be complaining about it. Your car would be running like ***.
Part #5 on diagram 2 is a simple spring bolt. Once again, you can get a replacement at Autozone/Advance. It's basically a long bolt with a spring on it, to allow the exhaust to flex without cracking or breaking.
OEM part # 18176-P08-003 005 003 BOLT, CONVERTER

Re: Need help identifying Civic EJ8/EK D16y8 Header/exhaust parts
Thanks a lot for the info guys.
After putting everything back together, looks like I do have the exhaust manifold gasket.
But i'm missing 2-3 nuts for it, where can i purchase them? how tight should they go on? Should I be using any type of thermal paste? (currently do not have any on)
Looks like I have the crush gasket as well(the one in contact with the catalytic converter. Should I be using any type of thermal paste here?
I'm also missing one nut where the 4 pipe connects to the 2 pipe on the header.(3 total, only have 2)
Where can I purchase these?
Final question: even if I do not have the rest of the missing parts, i.e. nuts, including thermal paste, will I pass/fail smog?
Thanks

You don't need thermal paste. You can get replacement nuts at any hardware store - just take one with you, so you can match the thread pitch.
No thermal paste on the crush gasket, either.
Same deal with the missing manifold to downpipe bolt/nut you're missing. Remove one of them and bring it to the hardware store to find a match. Make sure you get grade 9 or higher.
No one here can tell you if you'll pass smog or not. There's more to it than just what exhaust manifold you have. Once you're done replacing the mani, get it smogged, and if it doesn't pass, we can work from there.
