Need help. with gsr swap in my 96 coupe no charge and chk engine light
Ok i got a gsr swap that came from h-motors.The swap is completly installed.starts fine but no vtech and has a check engine light.but cant check that also.the ecu is a p-28,and harness off 2000 civic.the car it came out was running fine.
the alternator is also not charging
other question is on my conversion harness,How many plugs should be going to it? i only got the blue,grey from the motor and green. looks to be a whole plug missing going to the conversion harness.
Appreciate any help or ideas you may have.

Re: Need help. with gsr swap in my 96 coupe no charge and chk engine light
i have a 00 gsr in my 96 civic. i had to use a p72 ecu from a 96 gsr. no conv harness is needed unless u use the jdm p72. and thats funny cause i dnt have vtec right now either for some reason. the 00 civic ecu will not work from what im told . i have tryed many ecu's . the only ones that i found work is the 00 gsr p72 without the immobilizer and the 96 to 00 p72 gsr. hope this helps u

You are using the ewh from an Si? Yes you are missing a whole plug. Your car is obd2a the harness is obd2b and the ECU is obd1. Make sure you are using the correct jumper harness. It should be obd2b to obd1. If the ewh you are using is from a non vtec then you still have a few things to wire up. JDM GSR motor right? Did you do the crank fluctuation mod yet? Lots of variables here.

Re: Need help. with gsr swap in my 96 coupe no charge and chk engine light
because my 00 gsr ecu wont read the motor codes "supposively" cause my car is obd2a and the ecu is obd2b and wont pass for inspection either. like it wont even read the cel code at all. so maybe try a 96 gsr ecu. i got mine for like 100 bucks off of pittspeed.com check it out maybe it will help u

The reason you use a jumper harness is to get an ECU that has a version of OBD not the same as the engine wire harness. If he is using an OBD1 ECU then yes he WILL NEED A JUMPER HARNESS. Bottom line.
P28 ECU = OBD1
99-00 EWH = OBD2b
Add that up and you need to get an OBD2B to OBD1 jumper.

Re: Need help. with gsr swap in my 96 coupe no charge and chk engine light
Ok. Maybe this will make more sense.
My car = 97 CIVIC DX = OBD2a
2001 GSR Swap = OBD2b
Harness = Stock OBD2a
ECU = OBD2a P72
I don't need a jumper either. But if I wanted to use an OBD1 P28 for tuning purposes then I would need an OBD2a - OBD1 jumper harness.

Haha. Yeah I was the same way when I first looked at it.
The ECU plugs are different with an OBD2b. The engine plugs are the same so that doesn't matter.

ok this jdm swap came out a 2000 civic running fine. so that car was obd2b.
sence my car is obd2a, that makes the differrance with the harness,and wy im missing a plug.
so i need a jumper harness for the obd2b to a obd1 right?

Here is a nice thread I found a while back. Scrap the 99 harness. And make sure you use a CIVIC harness. You can't use a GSR.

Re: Need help. with gsr swap in my 96 coupe no charge and chk engine light
The engine is a 97 or 98? That makes it obd2a. The important part now is the harness and ECU. I would get rid of the obd2b harness. Just use a 96-98 CIVIC EX engine wire harness with a 96-99 obd2a P72. That is the easiest fix. Or if you want to run the p28 for tuning later. Then still use the 96-98 harness but just get a obd2a-obd1 jumper. Thats it. But if its a JDM engine then you need to do the mods to the harness first, like the crank sensor. Tells all about it in that link.
