Need help to get my 98 civic LX running again
Guy's, I need your help badly.
im just an old guy that needs to get his car running so I can get my 4yr old around.
i had a 98 civic LX with a D16A in it (Original D16Y7 died) and a P2E ECU
i put the D16A in with no problems, but that car got hit hard in the rear so i got a replacment
civic EX with a bad motor and i figured I could swap my good motor into that and be off
again...not true. I'm missing something.
i really dont understand a lot when it comes to the electronics, and i want to learn, but im
desparate and need help. life is rough when you have to get your daughter to school and swim
class with no car.
so this is what i have done.
-installed D16A with the D16y8 intake (it had a connection on it the other intake did not, so i
figured i would swap it. it was identical other than that.
-i have tried BOTH ecu's; P2E (non vtec) and P2P (vtec) with
mixed results.
-i was assuming that it needed the non vtec ECU since the motor was such, but it would not idle
with that one.
-the EX motor had a connection the the oil pump that my good motor does not have. i have heard that i need to just get another pump with that connection unless there is a way to bypass it. (what are the symptoms of it not being hooked up?)
-the vtec connectors are just hanging loose, but i am guess this is ok. i also have read that if
you get to the RPM that the vtec wants to kick in, it will act weird, but i can live with that, i
an not trying to race anyone.
-the Vtec ECU idles nice, even revs up ok, but if you try to drive it, after a few blocks, it
starts to act like its starving for gas or something.
-the only thing i can think of is that is has something to do with the diffrence of wiring
harness. from what i read, one is OBD2a and the other is OBD2b. i dont quite get it, guess
something with fuel control?
-i still have the whole other car, so i am tempted to take the wire harness out and replace it,
it HAS to work then, right?
-if there is something better I can do, please let me know. i really need a no-nonsense answer, i
have to get this car running and i have been working on it non stop for 4 days.
i hope i did not make this too confusing. please let me know if you cab help.

Re: PLease Help. i need my DD going again.
no i haven't. if that's a viable option i will try it. if i do, the d16a intake will have something on it that the plug does not match up to. that's why i opted for the y8 intake.

Re: Need help to get my 98 civic LX running again
update. - broke down and put a vtec head on my block since that was what the ECU was screaming for (bought a CEL reader also) bolted it all back up and.. same effing issue!!!!!
so someone please help! please!
new rundown.
y8 mani
p2j head
ZC block
P2P ECU
(non of these i believe is the issue.)
everything that is being used was off running cars before taken apart.
It starts up and idles fine. it revs fine. put it in gear and try to drive, it losses ALL power. you can press in the clutch and rev it, but let it out and Blam, no power.
I'm at a loss, please help me.
