Default NEED HELP FAST: Pulling engine, can't seperate tranny!

Hey guys,

my friend and i arew downstares pulling our first engine. Its a d16y8 out of a 97 civic ex coupe. We disconnected all of the engine mounts and all of the cables and that ****, and got all of the bolts fromt he tranny to the block. But when we pull it, only the driver side lifts freely, the god passenger side lifts with the tranny! We can't figure out how in god name we get the friggin tranny off of the engine. Someone help, we've been at it for so long!

Got that, holy **** that was the worst thing I've ever had to do haha. My first time, it took ~ 10 hours just to pull it. Biggest problem was the wiring harness under the IM (shoulda taken it off) and getting the fuggin tranny seperated. Holy CRAP that took a long time.

you dont need to pull the tranny for the motor to fit in....leave it on take off all the mounts...and the shift linkage...

yes, pulling my gsr motor in my eg is like a 3 hour task by myself. Tires off, axles out, shiftlinkage off, exhaust unhooked, all hoses off, wires off, starter off, un bolt all the mounts, hook the engine hoist up, and pull the motor with tranny. Once you do it, its easy to do again. I just know the right angle to pull the motor out, so the tranyn clears everything no problem. watch out for the radiator, and the rear hose inlets. And hoist it out. I actally tilt the motor pretty good, I also tilt it pretty good when I put it in also. The trick is put a bolt threw the chain on the side of the hook on the hoist, so the chain can't slide on teh hook, and then you can hoist it on a pretty good angle.

ANYTHING YOU CAN TAKE OFF WILL MAKE THINGS EASIER! Ex. radiator, front bumper, intake, sway bar, even the fender on the passenger side (i find that I lean on that fender a lot for some reason) Get it out of the way, you'll thank me later! Good luck though!

Hell yeah, im with you. why the hell do you need the front bumper off? ANd the fender is kinda hell to mess with if you never have before. The intake is a must- , and is you have a strut bar on top, that is a must too- . But don't go wasting your time taking all those things off when you don't need 2.

another victim of the starter bolt. I did the same thing, kinda. I took out the wrong starter bolt. heheh

oh well. Personally I get anything out of the way when doing a swap, including the bumper. You dont want something to fall off and hit or something. but my bumper comes off in 4 screws, so its not that pain of an ***
