ok i was just coming into my neighborhood and i went around a turn with a slight ditch in it... right after i hit the ditch... my car just turned off..... no violent shaking so it didnt stall... it just shut off.... so i think nothing of it and try to start it up..... i turn the key and it tries to turn over and i can hear it trying to start but it doesnt ignite.... it just keeps on trying to start as if there was no gas... but the tank is just about full....also, when we popped the hood, it hadcoolant leaking out near the under drive pulley.... not coming from the head. btw the car is a 94 civic hatch with a d16z6. HELP ME FAST PLEASE.... whats wrong ?

please help i need this to get to work tomorrow i checked the connections to the alternator and nothing was wrong

are you absolutely sure it has gas?

have you tired to start it recently

i was driving it when it turned off and i just put a full take in like yesterday

Distributor - Either the ignition coil or the ignitor

Thats my guess, thats the only thing that would cause your car to shut off while driving.

right on the money ... i hit a pothole and my car shut off... coil was fried ... any idea as to how this happens??

Dizzy is my guess as well.

if nothing else works try and check all the grounds.My car did this befor and when i took a turn my ground came loose and shut the car down,started up after and took another turn same thing.i checked everything and finaly fouind a ground that was shifting in the turns it was so loose.
just something thats free if it is the problem and only a few min to go over your grnd wires.

Coolant around that area could mean the water pump. As for dying while driving, mine did that when the timing belt broke. They said the bad water pump could have make the T-belt break premature. Another time it shut off was when my main relay fried.

Yea im betting on the ignitor coil in the distributor. Change it out, even with one from a used distributor and you should be good.

.........Sounds like he also popped the radiator hose that leads under the body by the motor.

Wow that must have been wicked pot hole.

Even if it turns out to be the dizzy you should definatley get that coolant leak checked out. Something else could have gotten messed up when you hit that ditch.

welp thanks alot for the help but i pulled my timing belt cover off just to look umm welp it wasent there at all... that could be a big problem lol well not i need to know how to take the crank pully off

You sure it's not a distributor problem? All these guys seem to think it is. Not one of them asked if it had spark.

I'm sorry, ignition coil failures are a lot more common that water pump seizures. I'd have to believe you heard something crazy from the engine when the timing belt snapped...

yup same thing happened to me too, was driving down the freeway at 65mph and then car just shut off but radio and lights are still on, turned out to be my dizzy, get a testlight thing and pull out the spark plug wire and stick the end of the tester in there touching the metal part and have a friedd crank the car and see if you get spark....if you dont.....its your dizzy yeah!....autozone will give you a rebuilt one for around 200$ PROVIDED that you give them your old malfunctioning one...at honda it's around $700 brand new....
but about dying after hitting a pot hole? dunno..maybe somehthing got shaken up inside the cap??&lt;---wierd! i guess if the "Bump" was that great while the rotor was spinning it caused some kind of misfire or the rotor got warped or bent? no clue about that?????????

well guys it is defently my timing belt it was gone when i looked for it and there wasent one and there were shards of it all over the road right where it stoped working so i think i figured it out but i cant get the ******* bolt off the crank pully i wil try later

That's true but, there are alot of problems that can cause a car to stall and not restart. Narrowing down the problem is a must. throwing parts at it can get expensive.
