Default Need help!!! Emissions Guru's..

94 jdm b18c

stock everything, usdm ecu

195,000 body miles stock fuel pump, fuel filter changed less than a year ago, injectors came with the motor......

now heres the question...my emissions were like way over the limit...i was passed the gross polluter section...

will a bad fuel pump or going bad fuel pump throw more fuel than necessary into my car???

also i throw a code 43 like at the beginning of my day of driving..no other times...
I know that the code is an o2 sensor code but its also the fuel supply system....do you think that when the cel is not on it will tell my ecu to throw obscene amounts of fuel into the car??

Also, will a cell that is stored in the computer still retard the ignition and add more fuel even though the cel light is not on???

thanks...

a CEL will send the ecu into limp mode, I believe, sending more fuel into the engine.. but I dont' think enough to make you a gross polluter.

But if the CEL light is not on, I think that the ecu reverts back to regular mode, and just stores the code in its memory.

I would replace the the 02 sensor and if possilbe the fuel pump. I noticed a difference when I switched from my DX pump to a teg R pump.
Most likely your 02 sensor is causing all the problems and making you run rich.

Aha! Another code 43, I posted about it earlier today. So...to anyone who has an idea about code 43...I'm curious too. Thanks!

What were your numbers? on the readout sheet?

and how do you know that it doesn't go to safe/limp mode? the light just flashes and then goes out? or stays on?

this was my reading when i went not too long ago...

If the fuel presure stays within spec it's usually a bad o2 sensor.

TPS oh on... hahah, I accidentally broke mine one time too, to my knowledge , you can't get a tps sensor at all. It only comes as part of a whole TB unit. I was lucky enough to find one at a junk yard ( whole unit ) so I was saved. but yeah a tps could F everything up too.
I would make sure that you have all your sensors connected and in working order and then go back and get the car tested and see what happens.

Is this engine running on all 4 cylinders? Those numbers look like one cylinder isn't firing.

go to a shop and get pretested for free before you attempt to bar cert this sucker.. you are way off in numbers.. I am cleaning mine up to make sure it passes at a pre test before anything... how is your cat? those numbers look nasty

Why would you use 87 octane? From what I've been told by everyone is to use the highest octane possible which is 94 octane here. Sunoco's Ultra 94 octane actually says that it lowers emissions while driving which I use anyways cause of my compression ratio.

Also here in Canada you can buy this stuff called "Guaranteed to Pass" at any Canadian Tire. Is that sold in the U.S?? You mix it in with your gas then drive till the tank is empty then fill up again and go do your test. People down here swear by it.

Have you tried retarding your timing?? That is supposed to also help depending on where your timing is set at.

I used this stuff at the ref too. Put some Iso-Heet in your car + 87 octane and go pre-test at a gas station.

I have had bad luck with gtp. The higher the octane the more you will fail. Do a search. The lower the octane, the more complete the gas will burn. if you use a higher octane the more unburnt fuel will show up on the sniffer test. good luck at the ref. i passed on 1-17-03
