need help deciding about obdI swap in obdII...

Default need help deciding about obdI swap in obdII...

ok i found an obdI ls b18 engine for sale for 800 complete with shift linkage. i have a 1996 ex civic coupe. my engine is good as gone now and wanted to see if you guys thought i should convert the obdI engine to obdII or just find an obdII ls?? any advice input will help thanks

Depends if you have to do any emissions testing. If you do, the personally I wouldn't do it.

i live in maryland and we do emissions testing, but all i have to do is make sure there is no CEL rite?

I have no idea what they do in Maryland. If it's anything like in upstate NY, you'll need an OBD2A ECU, along with not throwing any codes. Hopefully someone else who knows for sure will step in with a definite answer.

Not necessarily. An emissions test will sniff ("sniffer test") the exhaust gases for excess pollutants. Just because you don't have a CEL won't certainly mean you will pass.

well in maryland everytime i take my car to get the emissions done they plug me up to the data link connector and thats it there is no tailpipe test at all.

can anyone help me at all? would i just need an obdII ls ecu if i did the odbI to obdIIa conversion?
