Need Help with D16z6 with y8 manifold w/b18 TB
Ok, i have searched long and hard, but im having a hard time getting the right answers.
Here's the problem, I have a d16z6 manual, and Im buying a b18 TB from wes d (pictured below) and im going to also buy a d16y8 intake manifold. Now what im worried about is the wiring. From my understanding the y8 auto and manual senors are in different locations. So im questions is would it be easier to buy the y8 auto or the manual intake manifold? What are my main concerns when swapping, what are the steps i need to take?
Another question i have is does anyone have a write up on how to do this?
Picture borrowed from wes d

that's the thing i haven't decided on which manifold to get. I need to know what's my best option. So you say the newer ones are easier to use?

Re: Need Help with D16z6 with y8 manifold w/b18 TB (knightnam)
its not much harder installing the newer y8 manifold, everything comes into play but the gay sensor/vacum on top of the plenum chamber in the newer Y8's. Dont forget to shave a little nub thats on the z6 head. It in the middle of the head and wont let the y8 manifold get a good seal if u dont shave it down a bit (go look at the head and u will see what im talking about, it sticks out a bit in center top of where u mount the intake manifold). Also ur going to have to port the intake manifold a bit to make the larger TB functional. When u mount the TB onto the manifold ur going to notice that the TB is larger then the plenum inlet, if you dont port the manifold plenum to the TB size ur basically wasting ur time...il try to post some pics sooner or later..

A man i am in the process of doing the same thing to my z6. But the only thing is, that im going to bore out my t/b to like 61mm. I got a 99-00? mani, looks great.

also u will need to get a manual y8 manifold.
u need the manual because the iacv is located on the back (auto is located on the thottle body) and thats the stock location for the d16z6.
their should be no wireing conserns if u use the manual y8 manifold.

Why you Guy's doing that swap? What is different betwen thost two manifolds. What is beter in Y8?
We just finished d16y8 engine swap and specialy instal the d16z6 mani, because no problems with OBD-1 wairng anymore during that swap in to EG hatch.

dont forget you will need to tap a hole in the back/bottom of the y8 mani for the IAT sensor
here's how i did mine, 2 shots on the bottom are Y8. top shot is d15b7 IM but shows where the IAT goes on OBD1
also here is a pic of a 99-00 manyal y8 intake. the 99-00 feature cold start assist, 4 little holes on the flange.
I used a y8 head as well so I could just cap off the hose ends. I have heard of people drilling tiny hex screws + jb weld into the holds for use on other heads where the y8 IM gasket wont cover the whole area of the flange.

Nice pics.
O so thats why people talk about idle issues with the y8, its because of the cold start?
Made it easier to compare.

What's labeled as Cold Start Assist in that pic is where people get vacuum leaks if they don't plug it up when they install that manifold on civic that wasn't meant to have it.
So why a stock manifold swap over a aftermarket manifold?

Re: Need Help with D16z6 with y8 manifold w/b18 TB (-16V-)
sorry yeah that was a dumb question made by me. So even if i were to get the manual y8 from a 99-00 and use it with the TB above, i would still have to drill and weld? but if i use a 96-98 manual do i still have to weld?

Re: Need Help with D16z6 with y8 manifold w/b18 TB (-16V-)
well, the cold start assist will only give you idle issues if you have a vaccuum leak. your idle will jump up and down. but there are plenty of places to get a vaccuum leak other than the holes from cold start assist
reason for swapping y8 manifold is you can find them for cheap
and you dont have to weld anything, just JB weld. its an adhesive. some of the best stuff to have around it seals about anything

yes the iat is givin me problems also. i have a y8 in my obd1 eg and the y8 doesnt have iat. do u have anymore indetail pics of drilling and tapping for iat?
oh and can u use any sohc throttle cable? im using the dx throttle cable and throttle cable bracket. do i need to get no t/c bracket? and throttle cable?

I am also wondering why you are swapping for a y8 manifold. I have seen dynos where the z6 manifold made more power over a y8 manifold with larger tb on the same motor. The z6 mani is better for race applications imo.

Re: Need Help with D16z6 with y8 manifold w/b18 TB (knightnam)
instead of trying to drill a hole in the manifold to mount the IAT sensor you can drill the hole it your CAI and mount it there. i think that would be a bit easier but i have not personally done it, just what i have heard so you will have to look into that. also on a D15b7(dx) head there was 2 little tabs that stick our underneath the valve cover on the back of the head. you will either have to notch the y8 manifold or shave the nubs off the head with a grinder in order for the Y8 to mount flush to the head. i am unsure if the Z6 has those same little things stickin out on the back but i would assume since they are the same generation. just wanted to give yah the heads up

Re: Need Help with D16z6 with y8 manifold w/b18 TB (lohatch)
should i just use my dx sohc motor intake manifold? it has the iat on there already and the dx manifold is the same size as z6 i believe. i know its bigger than the d15b.
