hi everybody i have finally decided to change my tranny to manual.weekend coming i will be going to the junk yard to pull my complete swap,i went to the junk yard the other day and saw some tranny like d15b and d16a engine on it.i need to know the right tranny for my swap i have a d16y8 engine and these cars i am seeing at the yunk yard is 92-95 honda civic and i have a 98 honda civic ex.I want to know if the swap would be plug and play? and how long the swap would take? and also if the tranny from previous models and years can work cause the junk yard mostly have honda civics from 92-95 thanks again guys.HONDA POWER!!!

any '92 - '00 D-series tranny will work with the exception of the JDM DOHC ZC tranny which requires special axles and intermediate shaft (it does however bolt up fine and will work with the right axles)

It might bolt up fine. The only problem would be the two generations computers. the 92-95 are obd1 and the 96-98 are obd2 so you might have an issue with sensors and wire pin locations in the ecu harness.

Really doesn't figure into manual transmission at all, Automatics yes, but not manuals

he is going from auto to stick so the harness will be different and the ecu will be different, auto solenoids and speed sensor. the manual trans only has the VSS. He needs the manual harness and ecu.

the ECU you need, or at least should have, the harness you don't, you just modify the one thats already there.

thanks guys so does that means that i can take all my parts from a 92 honda civic d series and everything (clutch pedal,shift linkage,tranny mounts) should just bolt right up with out any modification? and is there any good tranny i should keep my eye out when looking?

not sure if thats everything but as far as modifications little maybe. but not sure.
as far as what trans, if you go with an ex you will have better gear ratios if you go with a lx or dx you have highway gears great for mileage but not for canyon or racing.

Pedals you should be able to use just fine, only one you might have trouble with is the gas pedal (92 - '95 civic at least use a different gas pedal and throttle cable between automatic and manual vehicles, they must be swapped as a unit, you can however use an automatic gas pedal and automatic throttle cable. mounts must be from a '96 - '00 civic 5 speed any model except Si (SiR in canada) everything else should just bolt right up.

Edit, oh yeah '92 - '95 EX/Si tranny will provide the best acceleration (same gear ratios as '96 - '00 EX manual) or the transmission that comes mated to the JDM D15B vtec (some have an optional limited slip differential)

o god i saw a nice d15b tranny in a civic last week and it had everything in tacked i am just hoping its still there

ok i am getting everything from a guy for $400 except the line from the master cylinder to the tranny and the manual transmission mount do you guys think its worth it?
