Default Need help... Car is idling at 0 rpms and is engaging vtec late

I have a 92 b16 ferio and as i was driving yesterday i noticed everytime i put it in neutral it would idle at 0. So i hit it and try to redline it. The needle slowly raises to 3 then it jumps quickly to 6 but doesnt vtec till 7500. once it hits vtec it gets stuck there and im waiting for it to hit redline but the needle woldnt move. I keep my foot on the gas pedal and all of a sudden it jumps to redline and it sounds like it poped out of gear and it was revving but i checked and it was in gear. I talked to my boy and he said that my cluster was off or my cams might be slippin. Im not sure so I want to ask the Gurus. thanks

it could be a timing issue.

your car may have some serious problems. i wouldnt drive it till you start troubleshooting them. or at LEAST stop trying to go to redline, thats the worst possible thing you could do with the condition its in.

first, adress the weird idle. you said its at 0? thats not possible. because it wouldnt be running. now when it says 0 is the car still running? or is it sputtering and dying.

it really sounds like you arent firing all 4 cylinders or you skipped a tooth on the timing belt.

well the car runs but the tach needle is at 0 so therefore i say its idllin at 0. I only tried to redline once after that incident happend ive stopped. So i should check my timing belt and timing>?

if the tach is at 0 but the engine is running, the tach isnt working properly. the engine is not idling at 0, because like i said, its not possible for it to run.
doublecheck the plugs on the distributor and make sure they are connected and clean.

Any CEL at all? Sounds like an electrical issue with the gauge cluster or something or it might be off a little. Or maybe a timing issue like they say.

Bump for a 4dr civic with B16A!

Thanks. I have no cel codes. If i did thats the first thing i would have figured out. Im stuck on the idea of it being my timing. Also the cam retard is -2 because the car used to be boosted. I didnt 0 it out yet because it still has the thicker head gasket on.

while car is running pull one plug off at a time and have someone read the idle to you or listen for power loss if you have no one. that's a easy way to check with out taking plugs out.
