Default Need help buying car

In the near future I will be buying a used car. A friend of a friend of mine has an Infiniti G20 with mods that seems pretty quick that he wants 3k for. He also has a 92 or 93 Civic DX sedan 5-speed with I/H/E.

I am going to test drive the Civic soon, can anyone with similar set up tell me what kind of 0-60 and 1/4 mile times you are running? Does anyone know what kind of times the Infinit is capable of? Im not 100% on the mods but the guy says its making close to 200hp at the crank.

I dont really like or believe this guy about the numbers but he is a mechanic and the cars are in great condition. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Civic has also been ported and polished. And the guy said he shaved the butterfly in the throttle body down to "thin as a razor."

The Infiniti is what he claims is making 200 hp at the crank. I would have slapped him if he said the Civic was making 200 hp.

My brother took a ride with the guy in the Infiniti and said it was a little faster than my previous car (95 Talon ESi). Im really considering the Civic because of gas mileage but I dont want to die on any hi-way merges so it needs a little pep.

Is it a stock G20 or a SR20 swapped G20?

My friend has a stock G20 and that thing is slower then dirt. If you swap a SR20DET black top in there then your looking at high 14s stock. Up the boost a little and better pipping, intercooler and such then your looking at 13s.

I'm sorry dude but that infinity is stock if it's just a little faster then your 95 talon esi (it's a god damn neon). Sr20 motor is capable of like 140whp stock depending on the year and head. There are bunch of poeople getting like 160-170whp with just s4 cams, header, intake, exhaust.

Don't even get me started on the engine swap possibilities. jdm sr20de (some 10:1 compression), sr16ve (nissan vtec yo), sr20ve (VVL nissan vtec), sr20det.

sr20 will get you good milage but not as good as a d15 in civic but it will actually move somewhere.

BTW that civic isn't the fastest thing it will run like 16's. sr20de stock should run possibly mid to low 15's stock. I dought it makes anything close to 200whp though, not with that motor at least (takes alot of work, I think there is only one or two people that people make that much hp on just sr20de N/A).

What year is that g20.

It is not turbo. Im pretty sure its the stock motor. He said it has a built bottom end and dome pistons, home-made ram air intake, ported and polished.

My friend seems to think it has 500 hp with the stock n/a motor. Ofcourse he knows nothing about cars. So that basically means its faster than his b2200 pickup.

I want to say the Infiniti is a 95 but im not sure.

My Talon was a freak car, it was faster than any other factory Talon or Eclipse except the turbo models. It was bone stock too. I put 2 car lengths on my brothers 97 Civic EX (5-speed with CAI and fart can) from a dig and 3-4 from a roll.
I dont know why. I suspect the previous owner may have put a cam or something in it that wouldnt really be noticable.

Ask him to take it on a dyno and do a base run. If it really makes alot of power from all that he claims he put then think about getting it. Until then dont even look at it.

if it's not idleing funny no cams, I call BS on the whole built motor. those things sound awesome with some jwt s4 cams. droooool

I would pick the car that looks like it took less beating, and has low milage on it.
both of these motors like to spin bearings

Anyone have any ideas about the Civics times? Even stock times? What about MPG??

I doubt it has more than 10 horses more than stock.

If its a stock DX then probably high 16s or so with bolt ons.

MPG is about 25 street 30 highway (results may vary)

You won't get that dx past 16's unless you spray it, those motors kind of suck (I think EF SI cam bolts up and helps somewhat but it's still slow). That motor is not a powermaker, and I wouldn't beat on it niether. Gas milage should be good as pretty much any d series.

Any recommendations of other years/trims of Civics to look at?
