Default Need help b18c1 to d16y8

Hey guys i have a dilemma here. I recently bought a 1996 civic ex with a 1998 gsr b18c motor. motor was running but had a rod knock so i swapped out the GSR motor for a d16y7 with y8 head. Heres the problem. The d16y7/y8 would idle on the P72-013 (gsr ecu) but would choke out if i gas it. The motor is running too rich. When i swap the ecu with a p2e-a01 (d16y7 ecu) It doesnt start at all. Ive checked all the wiring. What could it be?

I dont think you can run a y7 ecu on a vtec motor. The iacv wiring is all different. You will have to convert that back to the configurations of a non vtec motor. I would suggest buying a obd1 p28 ecu with a conversion harness and running that.. I went from a h2b motor to a d16y8 and Im using a stock obd1 p28 ecu. Its runs great wit no check engine lights or emissions to think about for right now

thanks just the answer i was looking for. So If i get the p2p ecu which is the OBD2a d16y8 ecu then it should start? I didnt know there was a difference between vtec and non vtec ecu except the vtec part of course...

Yes it will start!

Wait read the IACV FIX EXPLAINED part on the website: http://www.phearable.net/tech/wiring/wiring.96-98_2.jpg

Also check your battery to see if its drained or anything.. does it even crank?

*I know that non vtec ecus for B series motors can be used on a vtec B motor but I'm not sure if its the same for single cams.

yes motor cranks. I can start it with the p72 ecu but not with the non vtec p2e ecu.

You should try it then. If not by this week I can borrow my friends y7 ecu and try it on my car to see if it works. But that might be 3 days later

You're going to have to figure out what to do with the intake air temp sensor and the CKF sensor is a different plug as well.

if you run a p2p which is the for the y8 it's going to look for a knock sensor, also there is obd2a 96-98 and obd2b 99-00 so you'll need an obd2a ecu. Also make sure the rubber oil plug is removed on the y7 block because if you don't vtec will not work, Bauley's mini-me write up explains this.
