NEED HELP! AXLE?
problem is speed determined, i think it has something to do with the torque moving the engine a little bit. OKay SO going at anything aboe 5-10 miles and i let go of the gas there is a loud CLUNKING, not clicking like a cv boot. Im going straight. step on the gas a little bit no more sound let go clunk clunk clunk, it sounds BAAAD. Step on the brakes no more sound. Any ideas??

Re: (wwang924)
what to check for when checking the axle? I cant seem to find anything particularly wrong. Sounds like maybe its coming from the driver side.

^^^ lol
this sounds like what happned to me tonight.. the loud clunking.. i agree with JDM_ej on your axles about to bust...
right when i heard this tonght i knew it was my axles.. before tonight every now and then they would do the "bad axle click" but, tonight it was more of a crack/bang/clunk..
check the axle boots for rips or grease leaking out, you will probobly find your problem there.
oh, and replace your axles

What you laughing at man?!!
That's what i did, i got my girl to drive the hatch in aquiet place with me in the bay, turns out it was my inner joints on my old D15 vtec - perfect excuse for me to swap the ITR motor. I told her my engine was knocking and i needed a new one ASAP. she was like ' oh my god, you'd better get one then, i don't want you breaking down in the middle of nowhere'.

You bought a used axle with 100,000 miles on it/them? Don't do that again. Was it re-manufactured?
Just because there's no visible damage on the boot doesn't mean the axle isn't busted, one way to tell for sure is unbolt the LCA and pull on the whole hub assy., the CV shaft shouldn't extend more than an inch, if it does you should replace both axles.

Re: (wwang924)
bump. also more driving today and it sounds more like grinding now, i think the only reason that could be is cuz what ever was thumping(clunking) is wearing out.

Did you try this? There is a guy on here replacing his axles as we speak, https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1390323, think he got his for $60 bucks a piece, with lifetime warranty. I doubt its in your gearbox, because you would notice it not wanting to go into gear. Or once you do might try and come back out. Even a grind would be noticed. Get under your car and check for grease on the back of the hub. My axle is leaking, and there isnt a rip on the boot, somehow its on the hub.
