Need help asap: Can't get drivers side axle all the way into tranny!
I'm replacing my drivers side axle as well as the axle seal due to a leak after installing a new tranny, and I can't get teh axle to seat all the way against the seal. There is a 1/4" or so gap, which I believe was there after we installed the new tranny, but I blamed th e leak on a bad seal. Is there soem trick to this? Do I have the wrong axle? It's a a 97 DX Civic with a 95 Ex tranny and the axle is for a 97. I was told they are the same...is this right. Any help is appreciated.

just push the axle in really hard. sometimes the clip gets stuck and you need to push it in all the way so the clip can sit right. what ever you do don't remove the clip, it prevents the axle from sliding out.

I'm pretty sure the clip is engeging because I have to use a screw driver to pop it back out.

Is the other side in the hub? If so get a friend to push on the hub (back and forth motion) and while their doing that your under the car wiggling the axle to go in. With a right hit and wiggle your set.
If that doesnt work take the axle out and stick your finger in there and feel if theres anything blocking it.

I always hold the axle lined up straight, move the wheel hub back and out of the way, and just give it a little tap with a 5 lb hammer... dont whack it so that you tear up the joints, just kiss it enough to knock it in.

Yeah, it's in the hub. When I feel around in the tranny everything seems fine, but there is a large rod of some sort just beyond the little c clip indent. I feel it spinning when I turn the other axle.

That rod is from your final drive. That means you dont have LSD but if everything before that is fine then put some webols into it.

Well no matter what I did that ****** just wouldn't go any further in. What I did instead was only push the axle seal in about half way, and then snapped the axle in. No leaks so far.
