Default Need help ASAP! Body question.

Mods, I figured this would be the right forum compared to the App/Cos forum. OK guys, right now my car is in the body shop getting a full respray and dents pulled. The body is a 93 DX hatch, and I'm getting the guy to take off the door moldings and fill in the clip holes to make it look like a CX.

He gave me a call yesterday saying that the clip holes are too big to just fill in and that he would have to weld in plates on the backside so the filler wouldn't cave in.

My question is, who has done this before and did they have to weld or add something. Or did they just fill in with bondo and sand? How did it hold up? Do they have to do the same thing when they fill in trunk holes from spoilers? I didn't think the holes were that big.

he is correct in not filling the holes with bondo, you could use tigerhair as well (fiberglass) but welding in plugs, although costly, is the best way to do this.

Damnit, I was afraid of that. It will cost me another $200 and more down time which I cannot afford right now. If he uses fiberglass does it eventually cave in as he said bondo would???

no fiberglass wont cave in like bondo but it is about the same time to do as weld. i am not a body man but helped my friend seal some holes from a spoiler in his 240.

I had the holes welded on my rear quarter from when there was a 3 piece wing on it (last owner).

IMO if you want it done right, have him weld it. $200 seems like a good price, and the down time shouldnt be more than a day.

Fiberglass would hold it, but any impact to the door or temperature change could cause it to crack.

Well... I guess you guys are right. $200 isnt a bad price, but I won't have that extra money for 2 more weeks. So it puts me in a crazy situation.

I was thinking, these little plastic clip holes can't be as big as the hole for a spoiler. Anyway I'm going by there tommorow and check it out. I really don't won't door moldings, and refuse to shave them.
