Default Need help with 92 civic

I have a 92 automatic civic lx that recently broke down. When you start the engine all you hear is a grinding sound and all the oil is leaking out. My friend told me that I need a new engine. My question is, How much would it cost to put a low mileage engine in this vehicle and is it worth it.

Also, can you recommend any good mechanics in NJ or NY that could do the work?

you could one in a junkyard for like 200 - 500 bucks. i wouldnt pay more than 200 for that motor and no more than 500 for the labor. you may be able to fix the one you have . but your not rally going into detail with waht is going on and what you did to make it like that

So basically I should not pay more than $700-800 for everything.
The story is this. I let my girlfriend use it while I went away and when I came back it was like that it was oil everywhere. The guy who looked at it says there is a crack ...............somewhere, I can't remember now. But just the fact that it is grinding like that does not sound like something that could be repaired. I would have a mechanic look at it but that would require towing and I do not know any mechanics in the area

best thing to do is clean off all the oil u can see under the car best as u can then start it up and see where the oil is leaking from just leave it on long enough till u se oil on the floor. grinding from a motor is repairable depending on what is grinding. how many miles on the car, check your dipstick is there any oil on it at all?? u can find a decent motor for about 300 i would say and labor ya 500 sounds about right good luck sounds to me like it might just be worth getting a newer car if u dont want all the hassle.

The car has about 120,000 miles on it. I really want to try to fix it because the body and everything is clean and it has basically been reliable from the day I got it. THere is no oil in it now because basically all the oil has leaked out
