Re: Need filter opinion { carbon fiber filter}
if you can cough enough money for a k&n do it. those ebay filters arent very good and dont offer any type of warranty. the one your looking at is going to be about 20bucks when shipping is added and its just a no name filter painted to look like carbon fiber. If iwas you I would save an extra 25 bucks or cough up and extra 25 and get something legit.

yep, thats just a sticker overlay. Its been show that either a k&n drop in filter or full cold air is the way to go rather than short ram. If you have the money get a tuned intake suck as a passwordjdm whale *****. The covering on the filter would affect the flow in a bad way but i doubt its anything youll notice. I have one on mine from the previous owner

Of course it will, and that's a lot more than half the filter that's covered. K&N filters are more expensive than most other brands for a reason, they are quality. Not to mention that they are reusable, unlike the cheap crap one you linked to. Think about it this way. Spend $20 for a cheap filter that isn't efficient, and have to buy another one 2 years from now when it's clogged beyond repair. Or buy a K&N filter now, and you'll have a filter that will last longer than your car.

Re: Need filter opinion { carbon fiber filter}
why would you want this filter? B/c it looks cool with a silver and black checkered sticker on it? or (carbon fiber). This would have no function for your car!!!!...... A filter should be made our of filter material not a material similar to fiberglass (carbon). I would recommend a pep boys, auto zone, advanced, or any filter to this at least one that looks like a filter. Seriously look around for a quality filter like K&N

I have the exact same one made by Ractive. I have an Iceman intake (short ram setup) on my beater, and when I ran out of filter cleaner I put on that Ractive filter temporarily. Didn't notice anything different in sound or performance.
I have since converted to the cold air setup with the K&N filter that came with the Iceman.

Re: Need filter opinion { carbon fiber filter}
how about this... Buy a good quality filter and build a chamber around 3 sides of it out of plexiglass or something comparable. Dont make it exactly the size of the stock box make it bigger where it will still get air from the bottom of the car under the bumper. Then paint that black. Then run some brake cooling ducts from your fog light hole into the bottom of the intake compartment where most people run cold air intakes through.

here is a filter with real carbon housing

I have a friend with this filter and it seem decent for a NA car
if you are boosted I would stay away from ebay filters.
here is another that looks real.
