Default Need Exhaust help!

I have a 96 Hatch with a GS-R motor all stock. I bought a Apexi N1 cat-back and bolted it up right to the stock header running no cat. Now, w/out the silencer this set up is LOUDER THAN A MaF&%Ker between 0-4500 but when VTEC kicks in it sounds even louder like a TURBO CHARGED KAWASAKI 125 DIRTBIKE! RICE,RICE,RICE!!!!! More then raspy more like TIN CANS rattling!! With the silencer in it sounds very NICE at low RPMS but AGAIN at VTEC its ricy as hell and louder than a mafu%cka!!!! But the good thing is it PULLS VERY hard during this pot of rice stage! NOW, I can't take this crazynoise anymore. I was told the APEX N1 cat-back makes the most HP and torque. If anyone has a better suggestion please HELP! Which cat-back exhaust should I buy? 5ZIGEN fireball? Greddy EVO2? TANABE? I want my exhaust to sound deep not RICE and kinda quiet at high RPMS you know what sound I mean!!!

PLease any help!!!

how is it with your catalytic converter on?
probably not as loud.
If you are using a straight piece of pipe, look into getting a bolt up resonator.
They give it a real deep note.

Greddy EVO2 Cat Back My bros just had this installed on his 04 civic ex.....sounds really good, and this came from his hot rod mechanic who does not like imports and their rice.

Just fit a cat on and the 'ricey' exhaust note will go away.

Much cheaper option than buying a new exhaust system

the cat will quiet things down a lot... I have been taking a lot of time lately planning my exhuast option because I hate the loud noise from mine. I have a 2.2 in my civic coupe and people can hear me coming for blocks... I am putting a superconverter 16in long with 3in in/out, flowmaster hushpower II resonator, and the 70 series muffler... should quiet things down really well without compromising power.

Should I buy a stock cat or a high flow cat? And how will the sound be with the aftermarket highflow cat? Thanks....

Buy a stock cat from a scrap yard, much cheaper than a hi flow cat.

Hi flow cats are louder than stock, but not as loud as a test pipe.

Na, don't need a sound clip of a LOUD RICEY exhaust. But thanks. Yeah so, I should go with a stock cat? Its only like 1.75 diameter from a stock GSR cat! How will a JDM Type R 2.5 header w/ 2.5 highflow cat, and my 60mm Apexi N1 cat-back sound? Anyone have this setup? Will this sound crazy ricey?? or sound good?

thanks people!!

From my knowledge the sound is developed mostly from the resonators the exhaust system has. The Apex'i N1 is infamous for being a loud exhaust anyway, why not try Hks Hi-power.....I say this all the time it is the sickest sounding Honda exhaust ever.

Hks? What setup did you hear this HKS exhaust on? On a stock cat or high flow?
thanks... That was on my second choice for my civic, the HKS Hi Power but it only came in 55mm piping for the 96 civic hatch. Thats why I choose the Apex N1. I Regret it now...

I heard it on a stock si cat, and a test pipe....I heard if on a jdm b16 w i/h/and other parts.......I also heard it on a ls/vtec w/a bunch of other parts(THIS WAS ALL FROM THE SAME CAR)
I heard it on the new si's & rsx's....sounded deeper, but same tone.
But the best one had to be the b16 w/ test pipe.....it's beautiful, it sounds so much more tuned, or superior to other custom or cat-back exhaust system......I'm buying 1 in 2 weeks
