Need direction with my del sol
hey gents, just picked up a del sol si
the stock z6 has 160k and was turbod
i have thought of several directions in which to take this car.
NOTE: I would like to spend less than 2k on the engine. and it needs an exhaust because the 3" pipe is too loud for my job
also i am a noob.
First I was thinking of getting a jdm d15 vtec, new head studs, with ebay turbo. I want the jdm because its guaranteed lower miles than i would most likely find coming out of a junkyard, therefore i would feel more comfortable turboing it.
I was also considering an ls swap. I dont think i would be comfortable turboing it because the mileage would most likely be higher. I do like having the little extra torque of a non-vtec. I think this would be a slightly more difficult option, as i have no swap experience.
third option is sell the ******* thing. picked it up for 1700, has rust undersideskirts, needs paint. then i rear ended an old lady, so it needs a bumper and hood. I could easily replace these, but it makes the car even more ghetto looking til i get it painted.
bumper plus paint +1700+300 i put into it seems like a lot for a nearly bonestock del sol.

Re: Need direction with my del sol
Could swap a B20.
Get the b series del sol linkage.
Instant torque, engine out of a CRV probably wasn't revved to death.
B20 probably cheaper than a B16.
Already low compression, boost that and watch out.
Keep the 3 inch exhaust, turbos tend to quiet exhaust noise.
Could be a cheap beast either turbo or NA.
Check out the Forced induction forum.
If you want to stay NA you could later go LS/VTEC. Check the All Motor forum
Will be more money to do this right.

Re: Need direction with my del sol
Either way, you can kiss the 2K price goodbye to build something quality that will last turbo or n/a. In order to be in this price range you'll have to stay nearly stock(with a b) if you don't already have an engine.
