ight guys..i went outside n started my project..i havent started in in over a week..its a 94 dx hatch...well last week it ran fine..but when i started it yesterday it squeeled loud as a mutherfcker...and i had tha hood open and a lil bit of smoke came from tha alternator..i tried it a few more times and it did tha same thing..than i started it again and it shut off...so i started a again and kept revving it while it was still squeeling and smokin...but once i stopped revving it,it shut off...than one of my boys stopped by and i told em too look at tha alternator and see if it looks fcked up when i start it....well i turned tha key and it started and ran fine....this ever happen to anyone before?? thanx

ive never seen smoke come from an alternator but i can see how its possible, cant imagine its good though!

btw: i love your name, lol!

It sounds like the pulley on the alternator may be worn out, or it could be something internal like the brushes.

well, would you trust drivin wit tha alternator like this??? i dont wanna get stuck somewhere...its freezin outside... if it was summer i could care less.....

its probably not a good idea... i dont how an alternator could be functioning properly with so much friction it will smoke for whatever reason, you will probably end up stuck somewhere without any juice left!

yea thats what i was thinkin...im just ganna stay in town with it till i got my check from insurance so i can do my swap......thanx guys..

ahh..im just ganna use it to get to werk..besides..i got triple a... and as long as i can get it to work i'll be fine..if it breaks there i can leave it in tha garage at work...a h-t member just pmed me and im most likely ganna buy a alternator off him...
