Need advice...Got my stolen engine back, 12 years later...
I have a chance to pick up a theft recovery engine that was from a car that had been stolen from me 12 years ago. It was picked up a while back, and now the detective is letting me pick it up if I want it - only thing is that there's $450 in impound yard fees.
It's complete engine only, no tranny or ecu - B16A3. What do you guys think?
Guys who know me and know more details, please DO NOT go into detail here, just whether you think I should pick it up or not.
I wouldnt mind picking it up and rebuilding it and keeping it on principle alone, but is it worth it?

i would say it isworth it if you really need in right now..i dont think the engine is worth too much without the tranny..but i guess it depends on your situation and if you have the moeny to spend...also do you know if its even it good condition now??might have a lot more mileage on it

if it was from a 1994 car.
As far as milage, yeah, it's a big guess, but I figured if I did pick it up, I would prolly just tear it apart and rebuild it anyway, since I have virtually no idea of the history of it.

i would go see what kind of shape the engine is in first. is it sitting out in an impound lot or has it been indoors?? $450 for a b16 long block isnt that much at all.

I'd go see the condition it's in, if it's all rusted 'n fucked up, I wouldn't go for it, but hey, for 450, it's hard to go wrong if it's aight, besides, it's urs :-P

Re: (Syndacate)
I would check the condition, If you have the money to spend to fix it then I would go for it...never know, if you have the money and time you could build a SOHC monster I personally would not pick it up, just cause i'm poor and a single isn't worth jack to me cause i don't have the money to build it up. Look at it though. No one here knows your situation and what you have to put into it...good luck

A B16 is a DOHC
It was stored indoors, even at the impound yard. I'll share the story later.

What principle? If it happens to be no good, I wouldn't understand what principle would make it worth it to pay $450 for it.
Anyway, I'd only do it if by inspection it were in good shape, otherwise I wouldn't waste my money on it unless you already had plans of picking up a spare block. It's not a dog or old friend.

He has to pay money for something that was initially, already his.

For some reason, I doubt you even understood the context of the reply. Ciao.

If you need it, pick it up. Honestly, this engine sounds to me like $450 that could be better spent. And to think that you already paid for the engine once, you still have to rebuild the whole thing.
I mean, it's your choice, but if you don't need it I wouldn't bother. It'll just be a money drain in the end.
