you need to search, everyone of the motor will be reliable as the other (as long as you convert the h22 to manual timing belt tensioner). The ls would be the less powerful of the bunch, but do your research first. Whats your budget and goals?

Well, having a fast car is the only eh misleading part maybe. Fast car can mean a lot of things, how about hp specific? Things you could do for under 3k: getting a d16z6 and turbo it, b16 possibly, h22 doubt it but if you source parts cheap maybe, ls motor swap very probable and maybe enough money to turbo, ls/vtec possible and maybe enough money left to put some ctr/itr cams in it.

Re: (z6hatchboy)
well i plan to spend 3k on just the straight motor
another 1800 for the add ons headers, intake turbo ; etc
i plan getting the most horsepower i can without spending more than 5k on the motor

1800 might could get you somewhat of a reliable turbo kit if your lucky. You could possibly do a h2b setup for 5k but thats a fairly difficult swap. I say do a z6 turbo, or a ls swap and turbo, that would leave you plenty of room for a reliable turbo motor for 5k
