need advice on 1995 civic cx I just bought.
I just purchased a 95 civic hatchback CX.
While flushing the coolant I noticed how the head looked new or like it had been replaced or painted. Just now got around to looking up the code stamped on the head and it says PM8-2 which I've found to be from a crx hf. I'm new to the 92-95 civic's so why would one go through the trouble to swap a crx hf head on a D15b8?
Right now the car is getting poor fuel economy and I think it may have a headgasket leak.
I appreciate any responses

Are the spark plugs toward the intake or the exhaust side of the head? Is there a VTEC valve?
The CX came with a D15B8 (number on the block) 8-valve non-VTEC engine which was weak at both performance and mpg. Since it's a D series, the head can be swapped to almost any other version. One thing you should not do though is try to run a VTEC-E head with a block and controls that are not VTEC-E.

The spark plugs are towards the intake side.
Correct, my car is a stock cx with the stock d15b8 block, 8 valves.
The head is stamped pm8-2 which I thought was on the 89 crx hf?
*Edit*
After more reading, my pistons should have 4 valve reliefs since it's a 95, and the valves aren't destroyed yet. Since it has a crx hf head should I be running the crx ecu and crank pulley? I've read the timing marks are different on the d15b7/8 and d15b6.
I'm also getting poor fuel mileage. My radiator has a leak and is losing pressure. I'm not sure if that would contribute to poor mpg, but the engine doesn't reach the middle of the temp gauge and takes a long time to start warming up, longer than it should.
I possibly could have a head gasket leak because the coolant was pretty nasty. I did a radiator flush and filled with honda coolant and changed the thermostat.
What should my next move be? I'm going to turn the car into a SCCA car in the STL class so I just need this current engine to last a year or so. I'll eventually have king motorsports build me an engine but right now the stock one is staying.
2nd edit: I'm going to swap a d15b until I'm ready for the b series swap. I'd still like to know what the benefit is with putting a HF head on the B8 block and how it should have been done correctly.
3rd edit: I purchased a d16y1 from Hmotors so if anyone has a p28 for sale then let me know.
