NA b18c5....TURBO b18c1
i just wanted to get a few opinions on each setup if it were to go into a EK hatchback. i was contemplating either turboing a gsr engine with the drag 3 turbo and running stock boost for a while or geting the type r engine and getting all jun valvetrain with the basic boltons. which of these setups would be faster in the 1/4 mile. i need help in this decisions. which would most of you prefer? thanks alot for all the help!!

Go boost. The DragIII kit is a very good kit. You will be very pleased with it.
My buddy has a Greddy kit on his 95 coupe with a B18C1, and the power is smooth, but he's puting my room mates old Drag kit on there....will make for some nice power.

Why don't you figure out what you wanna do with your car first. If your definately gonna go drag, then go boost. If not, then just get the GSR first and decide later.

If you don't want to worry about your car lasting every time you drive it, then go N/A. If you don't care about reliability, then go boost.
Don't forget, that IF you do go boost, there's alot more to boost then the bolt ons, like engine management that can end up costing a fortune. I know that with my car, there's so mucgh maintenance that goes along with a boosted car. Sure its fast, but I know if I were to do it all over again, I'd stick with N/A.

I'd personally go for NA,... but I don't drag so thats me.
but if you want alot of power,... go for a h22 with a turbo or supercharger. Overbore while you're at it to fight turbolag and there won't be many ppl who can match you.

tyflip2,...
If you're absolutelly bought on going for a Turbo kit, go for it. The B18C1 is a good choice for a boosted engine just make sure you take the car to a mechanic who knows what he's doing to attain everything you want out of you car.
For a 13 second drag down the 1/4 mile you'll need about 330hp+ which is easily attainable with a B18* series engine, its available with a B16* aswell. You'll have to make a number of changes to the engine, but I highly recommend an aftermarket Limited Slip Differential to improve your times and prevent torque steer. Torque steer is basically the excess power of the engine causing the steering wheel to "lose control". Can't explain to well, but imagine its like something kicked your wheels...

this guy almost sounded smart until he said u need around 330HP to run 13s. just under 2200 and around 190HP netted me 12s. once again 330HP, that cracks me up.

Re: NA b18c5....TURBO b18c1 (1 2 NV)
1 2 NV,...
1) I stated that I don't drag so I'm guessing.
2) Lets not forget that NA is quicker off the start, FI means theres gonna be Turbo Lag which means he'll have to compensate once the boost sets in (this depends on the setup, turbo size, how low the compression rate is dropped etc.)
3) Lets also take into consideration tire grip and asfault quality, where I live you need way over 350hp to get times in the high 12's
4) I also am assuming he's keeping the car with its interior, a/c, etc.
My apologies to everyone in the thread if my calculation of 330+hp is way off

Re: NA b18c5....TURBO b18c1 (ZensokuEK)
If you plan on tearing down a type r head anyway, just get a gsr and build a bad mother ******* all motor car.
I don't know, this is one of those, should i be a doctor or a lawyer question, both are so different and the results are totally opposite and the same.

Re: NA b18c5....TURBO b18c1 (Plan B)
thanks alot for all the help guys. i think that i am either going to get a b16 or b18 and turbo it with the drag gen 3. i am hoping to run mid-low 13's in an EK hatch CX after a few mods to the engine. thanks again
