Can you put arrows to what you are talking about....since noone else seems to be helping maybe I can do some SEARCHing FOR you....What does the line go to on the Y8 and what SHOULD it correspond to on the Y7??

if you look at the two auctions in the above link, 1 d16y8 manifold (pre 99) has no vertical pointing line but the 1999 up manifolds do have it ( right in the middle of the injector ports) does anyone know what this does on the 99 up and whether or not i can put it on my y7 1997 block

That's for the fuel injection air control system. (FIA) It sends extra air to the fuel injectors when the engine is cold to help keep the fuel droplet size small. (At least that is how it was explained to me.) It's another emmision control system.

Yep. That is an extra air injection line. They added it for 99-00. That y7 mani is a 96-98. Just jbweld the extra little holes above the runners in the intake manifold shut (that's what I did a year ago and it works fine). If you don't you are going to have one massive air leak. Also make sure you get the intake manifold gasket for the 96-98 intake manifold.

Nope. I've done this first hand and it still leaks. Those air injecton ports don't have a corresponding hole on the 96-98 head and are connected to the runners of the intake manifold so I PROMISE it will leak if you don't weld those shut.

I've done it also, no leaks at all.

I got the answer thanks Riceymcricerton!
you plug it if the mani and head are both 99 up
you jb weld the holes shut if the mani is 99 up and the head is 96-98

Beacuse as I have said, that nipple is connected to ports in the intake manifold. Sorry, I just finished helping this guy over AIM and I thought he was putting a 99-00 intake manifold onto a 96-98 head. He is putting a 99-00 mani onto a 99-00 head onto a 96-98 block. Whoops, sorry for the confusion fellas. s on me!!

no, like was stated earlier, its for 99-00 air injection. There was a post a while back about plugging the holes. Keep in mind there are 4 holes on the manifold to head mating surface that are using that same injection system. I was told they needed plugging. Especially because if you look carefully the holes are wide open next to the injectors. THere was a post a while back about expanding rivits in the holes and using honda-bond to get a good seal. I just held out till I could find a 96-98 manifold.
BTW, I like your valve cover Civiclx, what paint did you use?
