A mysterious whistling...
Today I noticed that I had a mysterious whistling or airy noise coming from my car when I got to work. It sounded like it was coming from underneath, and I figured it was an exhaust leak, as my exhaust has been rattling a little lately. When I just got home, I popped the hood, and realised its coming from the engine bay. I can tell its something thats rotating, one of the pulleys or belts. I popped off the timing belt cover, and checked it out, everything seems fine, and my belts all look good. Its dark here now so I couldnt really see down any further. Basically what I wanna know is, is there anything that typically makes a whistling noise when its going bad or could it just be something thats rubbing or what? Possibly a loose pulley? Any suggestions?

I had a CX hatch that did that at high rpms. I think it was the belts or the alternator. try tightening the belts if they seem loose.

Hmm.... ok. It's doing it at idle, and I can faintly hear it when driving down the road, so its doing it pretty much all the time as far as I can tell. Gonna be hard to do anything on it right now as its dark, but Ill work on it tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion, any others?
