mysterious electrical issue?
my friend's 99 civic is doing something strange. When it gets hot the car just dies. All electrical and mechanical stop functioning. I thought it was the main relay but it turns out that he loses all electrical functioning too. This would lead to the following conclusions:
1. alternator
2. battery
3. ignition switch
He says he has no lights, no turn signals, no anything.... so I would presume that is probably 1 of the 3 above listed items.
Anyone else have this phenomenon?
BTW he says there is no loss of power or sputtering either...

Re: mysterious electrical issue? (stevescivic)
I can shed more light on this matter. Apparently his dash meters, lights and turn signals lose power BUT his radio still works.
So with that being said then I would conclude that it would be a faulty ignition switch? Think about it... Position II powers everything while position I powers the accessories but not the dash components.
does anyone here agree?
