Default Was on my way to the Seattle Honda-Tech meet and my....

Motor blew!
Was bout 45 mins out of town just cruisin at like 80? and all of a sudden my rpms shoot up 2k from where they are supposed to i immediatly pulled over to check and my car died before i even stopped on the side of the road

btw its a 93 civic coupe with a jdm b16 stg 2 top fuel cams

my friend and i pop the hood and checked the collant and oil and it all checked
i also noticed some smoke coming from one of the valve cover bolts

so i go and try to start my car and its trying to start over but nothing

my friend notices that my ex cam is turning but my intake cam is siezed up so when i start the car its just jumping timing

180 to tow my car to my friends place and we start tearing it apart right then and there

i pull the valve cover off and it smells like a damn bbq just missing the meat

my cam caps are fried im guessing the oil pump failed or for some reason this area of the head wasnt getting oil

the head is fuqed and so are my baller stg 2 top fuel cams

no valves were bent and the head is going to a machine shop to see if a good line hone will do the trick

i will have pics up soon

i have no idea what happened at all i just know this motivates me to finish my gsr with ctr piston build

which btw is almost complete i need a new set of oem cams put the clutch and tranny on wire up the resistor box and then drop the motor in.

May have run out of oil, or obstruction in the strainer. Several possibilities.

that sucks!!!! this happened to one of my friends when he was trying to get his car dyno'd. Our tuner said there was a problem going on, so he stopped before the motor quit running. When he got back, tore the head apart, and had the same results as you have. He just got another head and started over. Good luck!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of beating on DOHC Honda engines. Things like this are why I spend the extra money to do a belt and suspenders mod. I add a VTEC oil line, just like on an LS-VTEC cnoversion, to every VTEC motor I work on. It's not foolproof, but it can sometimes keep things like this from happening. Oil pressurization to the cams on B series heads is sketchy sometimes. $40 in parts is a cheap insurance policy.

thats prolly a good idea whats a belt and suspender mod? where can i get that?

and thats a negative on the overtorqueing..i did it by spec...i had those top fuel cams in for bout 3 months with no probs just low idle if anything

Just get an LS-VTEC oil line kit and use it. Belt and suspenders is another way of saying "make it redundant, so if one part isn't enough, both will be." You know, like wearing a belt at the same time as suspenders. It's not true paranoia, but it's on the way.
