My transmission fluid is low. How do I pull out the VSS to fill it?
I have removed the sensor and the two screws. Out came a little pin. There is now a tiny hole with a bronze ring around it and a rubber washer. Does this PULL out or SCREW out. Do I unscrew the tall bolt?
Ant healp is greatly appreciated.
please help me!

I've always found it easier and less messy to use a funnel through the VSS hole.

you're kidding right? come on guys, just friggin take out the filler plug and put a piece of hose on the end of the bottle and put the other end into the fill hole.. plus chances are if you're filling it anywhere from the top then you're overfilling it anyways. i suppose you also like to remove your valve cover to fill the oil??

I filled tranny fluid in my prelude from the reverse switch, its less cluttered than the VSS sensor area

Do it right.. remove the 3/8 drive plug... really? How else do you know the level is correct?

ok first of all this is the easiest thing to do every....
you get a 10mm with an extension slide it over the correct bolt and twist it out.... turn the VSS about 180 degress. pull it out...
take the 17mm (might be 19mm) bolt out from the side...
fill it up until tranny fluid (or just plain oil) until it starts to come out the hole of where the bolt is...
(you might need a breaker bar just depending on how tight the 17mm bolt is, i found a nice peice of pvc to break mine off)
there you go

honda trannies take just under 2 quarts of 10w-30 oil. There is a nice big fat 19mm bolt underneath of the starter that is very easy to use if the starter is already off, or you can use the vent hole, or you can remove the fill bolt.
2 of my d series trannies i put straight 2 quarts 10w-30 in them, and they never had a problem, and when i drained the oil to change it 10 months later, it was still golden like new

yes, how would you know it is low if you didnt allready open it up ?
i bought a $2 clear tubethingy that screws onto the bottle and then has a valve that you can shut on and off and its long enough to get in the tranny without problem. with an angled tapered tip that is easy to get inthe tranny.
best $2 tool iv'e bought.

this is how i do it
if you've ever seen the clearence on the tranny side of an h22 ek you will understand a little better. its almsot easier to remove the Passenger axle and lower subframe to fill it from the fill bolt

Unceasing Measure
Since no one has said it yet...if you're going to replace fluid in the transmission anyway, drain and fill the entire quantity. It's not worth the effort of topping it off without getting new fluid in there.

ok im getting the feeling like some people lost common sence.
Remove drain plug
removed filler plug
replace drain plug
remove vss
add fluid threw vss until it comes out of filler plug

all of this is fine, i just dont get why you take the extra time to take out the VSS to fill, thats what the "filler" hole is for
