Default my timing is backwards?????

i just put a y7 head on my d15b7 (free parts) my distributer has to be turned all the way to the back to make it idle best. if i advance it, it shakes alot. on my old head i ran it full advance. do i need higher octane gas? is my timing belt off a tooth? or do i need to idle it up more? other than that it runs good.

Set #1 cyl. to TDC and then make sure the mark on the crank pulley lines up w/ the mark on the t-belt cover, and also the mark on the cam gear lines up w/ the pointer on the upper t-belt cover.

Also make sure you're running the Y7 cam gear. We found out on Lee's car that the D15B7 and the Y8 cam gears are not the same (keyway slightly offset from each other).

Then of course set the ignition timing w/ timing light.

why are you even touching your dist. without a timing light?????

First off:
Get the right tools

Second:
Learn how to use them

Lastly:
Set your timing to specs
