My Problems
Hey. I'm kinda knew to the honda-tech website and I wanted to know what you guys would do in my situation. So here goes:
I bought my 1995 Civic EX (d16z6) in November from a senior in high school. I paid $5800. It is a white 5 speed, has 17" Exel Wheels(white), the headers and the CAI came with the car (uninstalled), the muffler had also been cut off. So I put the headers and CAI on right away. I slowly realized that the previous owner was not very smart. He had painted the side moldings and the paint was chipping off, so I repainted those and a ton of interior parts (vents, console, speaker covers, etc.). And as most car owner, started to notice every inperfection in the paint and interior. Which was quite bad if you add up all of the little things.
Anyway, I talked to a kid who recognized my car and he told me that the kid I bought it from blew it up from street racing and rebuilt it. I was kinda dissapointed that I had not done much research about it, but i'm not too worried about the engine, because it seems strong.
After the winter I put on my 17s and started racing some of my friends occasionally, Ford Probes, Grand Ams, Monte Carlos. The usual slowmestics that cant believe they got beat by a 1.6L Honda.
This is where the problem starts. After a month I can no longer spin the tires, regardless of where the clutch is dropped. But my civic still drives fine and i'm not too worried about it. Today, my friend asks me to race his 97 Chevy 1500 2WD pickup ( He would kill me, even with a good clutch.). We have wanted to race for a long time, but always made excuses not to. Well today, we finally agreed to race.
We lined up, I started to rev my engine and on three I dropped the cluthch from about 5500-6000rpm. WHAAAA!!! My engine spins from 6000-7000rpm and I accelerate to about 20. Second gear, WHAAAA!!! 6000-7000rpm and I just got smoked before I got goin 50mph. Now my car smells like fried clutch, and my friends burnt rubber. And my clutch is officially toasted! Now it shift slower than my dads 92 Chevy Conversion van and $600-$800 for a new clutch is lookin like a waste of money.
Lets face it, the d16z6 isn't the worst motor for a civic. But the potential for drag racing just isn't there (SOHC). I'm hoping that instead of spending $600 on a clutch, i will put it toward an engine swap. I was thinking H22A or B18C1.
What would you do? Thanks a ton, I just need some opinions. -Swen
