Default My P/S Delete experience.

Well Times are crappy and the civic hasn't been insured for a couple months so I haven't been driving it. In the mean time I got some things done that I have meant to do for a while.(Insured now! WOOT!)

While the car was sitting I pulled the ac.cruise,P/s,Full interior, sunroof, lots of stuff. If you don't like the fact that I gutted it get out of this thread because this is not what this is about.

When removing the p/s I ran lines with "T" fittings to an air filter, I did not do a manual rack conversion($$$). I chose to do this because I also am a fan of old air cooled VW's with no power steering.

My first thought was that the steering is a little more stiff than those VW's but as soon as I started driving I was stoked.

Previously my steering wheel would jerk right and left due to the pot holes here(Phoenix,AZ). It was a real pain in the ***. This made the car feel kind of shifty and out of control. Torque steer was pretty bad so the car would pull... I am glad to say that all of this shiftiness has disappeared since P/s removal. Now the wheels go where I told them to go, there is no shiftiness. The car glides along the road now. Bumps DO NOT pull on the steering wheel as they did before.

It seems as if a little of the street feel of the car has disappeared in doing this. I don't feel the grooves in the road anymore, or all of the bumps, cracks, and potholes. I personally feel more comfortable with my car now, with the way it feels. This may not be for all but it was for me.

The reason I have written this is just to throw another opinion on the subject out there. I know you all have heard of this a million times....this is for people who have never done this before...Flame if you want but this is just my opinion on it.

I put a manual steering rack in my 97 EX Coupe. Way better feel than a P/S rack with looped lines. I'm pretty sure it is a tighter turning radius too. I love it...

Mine doesn't have PS either...keeps my wife out of the car, since she can't park it.

Same here, rebuilt rack in a '96 EX coupe. Just have to change the column linkage thing. I don't regret it.

Before that, I had the line breather crap going on. It was okay, but I much prefer a true manual rack from a CX.

Glad you like the no P/S feeling, it's like a GYM when stopped so no one can say you don't go to the GYM...lol

I know where you are coming from, however different racks give different feed back due to the ratios differences.

Would very much like to see if OP can comment on different racks feed back if possible.

State the model and year of the car please.
