Default My new project.. turbo EG sedan. whos ganna expect.

i bought a 92 civic sedan Dx for 500 bucks. well i actually traded my old VAFC plus 250 for it. was running when i got it but smoked like a chimminy, and used tons of oil. my friend bought it for 500 because when we went to look at it the altinator had seesed up. so we cut the belt and drove it hom on battery power.

we now think piston 3 has no rings. pulled a plug when it was running and their was no differance. hmm no wander it was smoking...

goals. i bought a d15b Dx engine, tranny, and altinator for 200bucks. im installing that and im putting together a home made turbo kit for it. eventually im ganna save up and get an ex or si tranny with lsd, sohc vtec and build it up to run 12-20psi. with the stock dx motor im ganna run 8-10. im hoping to run low 14s. my real goals are 13s but im not seeing that happen on a stock dx motor.
Boost pics are on page 2

from what ive read the 92 dx 4dr weighs in at 2,240 so with a little weight reduction and some boost i might reach my goals. with the build block and head i would have no idea what i would aiming for possably 12s but we will see.

Body goals
Everything is ganna be black, i have black M3 mirrors, only because the dx didn;t have a passangers side mirror. im getting black projector hailo headlights, black corner lens's, and im ganna tint the tail lights and windows, either get black or bronze 16" rota slips, i know its trendy but i like them. also considering a z1 boxer body kit by VIS. i can get it for 500 shipped so i may do that after the engine build up. Painted tails on page 2

tell me what u guys think, hoping to run 13s on slicks, for under 1500 bucks total in the car..... think i might do it?

hear are some pics.

Converting borla hatchback axle back to fit sedan. pics on page 2.
updated pics lots more added.

how bout screw the body mods and spend that all on parts for the motor.
scratch the m3 mirrors and get a passenger side from the junkyard for dirt.

use all the money on motor parts and a nice suspension.
you'd have a nice sleeper .

turbo kit will consist of ihi turbo, hf manifold, custom adapter plate, dsm 450cc injectors, dsm 1G BOV, custom dp, and charge pipes, ford thunderbird turbo coupe intercooler, and most likely a vafc or safc for engine managment. 8psi daily 10psi track.

also im ganna compair the differances in 1/4mile times with the DX and EX trannies.

leave me feed back and sujestions if u have some. thanks

M3 mirrors = $40 shipped junkyard wanted $30
Black corner lights = $18 shipped
Stock tail lights = $18 shipped, (incase i mess up with the tint spray)
Black housing projector lights $125 shipped (haven't orderd them yet)
borla muffler $50 shipped. (will need fabricated off a hatch)

made the mistake of doing the body work last on my integra, this way if i ever need to sell it will be clean and rust free right off the start, also body kit will be next sumer and thats if i even get around to doing it.

The rims are a must especialy on the built d16. the stock steelies will never catch with over 12psi of boost..

DX 4drs are really that light?
I thought they were more like 2600-2800, maybe I'm thinking of an EX

My friend just had one made locally at a machine shop for about $20-$25. He gave them the specs and the made it, pretty sure he's using the same type of turbo you are, it's off an older Subaru.

EX is heavy, but not THAT heavy...EG's are light all around

92 DX 4dr is 2275
92 LX 4dr is 2319
92 EX 4dr is 2480

after close examination......NOT i discovered that a valve in cylinder 3 has a chunk out of it. about 1/4" by 1/4" and thats the reason why when we pulled the plug out their was no change in engine tone.... we still think the engine is missing oil rings do to the lager amount of smoke comming from the exhaust. but that could have been caused by the loss of compression... we will eventually find out.

the picture of the head isn;t very good but if u look closy u can see the peice missing from the exhaust side of cylinder 3

update. that intercooler won't fit in the place im holding it in the pic. im ganna put it where the a/c condencer is for the fall/winter/spring, and then when it gets hot out im ganna get a fmic and ditch the turbo coupe intercooler. just thought id inform everyone so no one buys one thinking it will fit their.

Car may be smoking for 1,2, or all 3 of the following reasons.
1. Valve guides are worn.
2. Valve seals are cracked.
3. Piston rings are shot.
Your lack of compression will be a direct result of a valve not sealing properly because of it being cracked or broken.
Your rings will still be there physically but it sounds like they are waisted.

Good luck with the project

Did you say your gonna KEEP the AC? what about the compressor? not gonna fit if you use the Hf man and adapter plate. maybe you should ditch the air and save weight and room . or go with a different manifold setup instead of the traditional adapter plate.
