My GSR hatchback takes a nosedive in RPM's with the clutch in
Car: '94 Honda Civic DX with GSR swap
Problem: Randomly dying, low idle with the clutch pushed in
Recently I've been having problems with my car...it will randomly not want to crank up. (EXAMPLE: I'll be putting gas in my car and when I go to crank it up it just spins over but doesn't run)
My first thought was the EFI Main Relay (aka PGMFI Main Relay) because that's a common problem that we see at our shop with the older Civics.
But then today I was driving down the road and was making a turn with the clutch pushed in and the RPM's took a nosedive from ~900RPM's to ~500RPM's and came back up and fell back down again...but eventually settled back at the 900RPM mark. I pulled into a gas station, turned the key, and it fired right back up.
My dad mentioned that it might be the Idle Control Valve, which makes sense.
I'm going to investigate later this afternoon, but do these two sound like they are the culprits?

Re: (lluks_844)
^I'm assuming somewhere on the intake manifold
I replaced the EFI main relay today (my dad ordered one and didn't even tell me), so we'll see if that takes care of the starting issues...if that doesn't fix it then the only other thing to look at would be the ecu itself (I got the GSR in a wrecked Civic...the guy had the swap done half-assed and the ecu is "chipped" with no rev limiter and no knock sensor.....the only bad thing is that it won't let you scan it to get ANY info out of it).
But tomorrow I'm gonna find the Idle Control Valve and check it out

With that ecu being chipped the idle set and idle resume maybe off or the ecu may have the IACV duty cycle all messed up. you need to get someone that has a burner to look at your chip thats deff going to be a big problem with your idle. First thing is try to close the idle screw all the way and if it still happends most likely you need to get something messed with in the chip.

^Wouldn't it have been happening since I've had the swap done back in November though?
I absolutely know that I need to get an ECU, but money is an issue right now (I told myself I was getting my suspension done this summer and saving the rest) and I figure that if I get an ECU then I might as well get one that's Hondata S300 ready, which I found a place that sells them for ~$700 with everything ready to go.

yah it would have didnt know it hadnt been the whole time. if you have a shipped ecu you dont need a new ecu. Just find someone who can tune crome for you. But if it just started then deff clean out your iacv that will most likely take care of it if not then your iacv is bad.

The IACV is located behind the intake manifold, gotta remove coolant hoses and a few bolts, clean with brake cleaner and let it sit for an hour or so, then clean it off, reinstall, should be could go to. Or clean out the FITV, which is located under the TB, and do the same as above. If all is done for, and problems still occur, might have to replace IACV or FITV.
