my friend wants to trade his b20b for my b16a3

Well it's your choice man, for me I would do it. The tranny should bolt right up u may have to do some different placements with the dowel pins for it bolt up properly (but I'm not for sure). In the long run you will need to get some tranny work done cuz thats a lot more power, but other than that If its a working motor go for it and its a must do If an even trade.

Also I forgot, the main work U would do is motor mounts and wiring harness work. Once that is taken care of what else is there to do except for coolant, oil, and fuel? Basically it's an easy swap if you have done the research and have the money to get the thing rolling.

do it, you should be quicker cause of the torque. also later on down the road you could add a b16 or gsr head. or tear it down and build a nasty motor

WHAT? 126(b20b) vs 158(b16a3) and the b20 has 'a lot more power'? ...ok...
b20b - 126 hp 133 lb/ft
b16a3 - 158 hp 112 lb/ft
Up to you on what you want. Everyday torque, or high power.

torque is power, HP is only a byproduct of torque over a period of time. so he was right when saying that the b20 is a more powerful motor.
the tranny will bolt right up and be fine. it will be quite short with a b20 red line, but just save for a vtec head and it will be a fun set up.
what car is this going into anyway?

I'm not sure but I think a B16 is worth more then a B20z. If thas the case sell your old engine and buy a B20z wich is faster then a B20B

dont do it, you're being ripped off.
the B16 is worth way more money, and is a much stronger engine. youll have to rebuild the B20's bottom end to get any kind of reliable power. they have weak *** sleeves and weak internals. B16 is just a better platform all together, don't listen to that larger displacement BS.

Hell, see what he will sell his b20b for? Because if it's a good price, you could sell the b16 block for cheap, keep the tranny, and keep the head. Make your self a nice little b20vtec. And yes like someone said earlier, there is absolutely no problem bolting up the b16 tranny to a b20b/z block. I just did it about a week ago, myself. with no problems. Just about any b-series tranny will bolt up to any b-series motor.

wow, this forum has gone to *****, no offense.
there are plenty of threads of the ups and downs for the b16 and b20. read them and decide for yourself.
ask yourself first, what are your goals, then decide.

Exactly, searching is your best tool. Thats what I did before I decided on a motor.

Re: my friend wants to trade his b20b for my b16a3 (Pete_SI)
Are you just trading bottom ends? or trading the whole motor? U really would be losing money if the whole motor. (that is right whoever posted that) If you could keep your B16 Head and trade the block for the B20 that is a must do! That would be one lil mean setup, even with stock internals. But once again its your choice.
My friend just built his B18C5 with P73 pistons which brings her up to 11 to 1 comp, has Head built with Six angle valve job (kinda ridiculus if u ask me) with crower valve springs, and has a JG/Eldebrock Intake Mani. There is a few other things not mentioned. Its roulghy 235 horse right now and has only put 5000 miles on it, but he's not satisfied. He is trading his bottom end for a B16 bottom end. He is trading the B16 for a B20b and slapping his GSR head on it. He gonna build a Twin turbo B20/Vtec. Keep u folks posted if u like.

Re: my friend wants to trade his b20b for my b16a3 (mericbe)
the value part is not of concern. all i really wanna know is, is it worth it performance wise (stock vs. stock)
