My friend burnt his clutch - but it still grabs...eh?
Hm, well my friend is really a crazy-*** ****. I just taught him how to drive stick last month and now he's really starting to worry me. He's quite reckless. Anyway, to the topic we go.
Last night, he was ******* around as usual in the parking lot of the local bowling alley trying to do J-turns. He asked me to get in the car and I gracefully declined, while warning him in the process. Then I smelled something really horrid. I was like "Dude you just fucked up your clutch. It's hella burnt." Being the cocky bitch that he is, he playfully shrugged off the situation, even when I tried telling him not to do that anymore. Hell I tried talking him out of reckless driving in the first place. So I was telling him how clutches are pretty damn expensive and are kinda PITA to replace without the proper tools and resources (which luckily I have access to).
So we went bowling last night and after we got out, I asked to drive the car to see how the clutch is holding up. Well it still bites pretty well. The car shifts fine, and it's not slipping at all.
edit: When I started the car up after we went bowling, the burnt smell was gone. Durr...
Questions:
1. If you were in my...err...his situation, would you replace the clutch?
2. It still grabs, but would you replace it anyway?
BTW this is on a 1998 Civic LX - bone stock.
Remind me to kill him...
edit x2: Why did I even teach him stick in the first place?

I'd buy a new clutch... if its burnt the smell may come back on a long joyride. And you dont want the thing to mess when yur rollin at 7500 RPM cause then you may have a lot bigger problems

that burnt smell doesnt neccessarily mean that the clutch is gone....it basically means your friend has just lessened the life of the clutch... if he drives like that everyday, his clutch will be gone soon. smack him upside the head and everything will be fine.
