waaaaaah im getting
1st 0-30
2nd 30-60
3rd 60 about 85
4th -100+
and fith is just an overdrive gear for the most part, saves gas on highway but u still get a little something out of it

as far as reading a tach each number stands for x1000 so right inbetween 3 and 4 would be 3500 rpms. go ahead (dont do this all the time) run each gear untill you hear it kick back one time. youll know what your car sound like at redline for that gear also how fast you are going. thatll give you an idea of how far you can take each gear try to do it a little before you hear it kick back.
with a tach you have something to look at so it just helps you keep trach, after you drive your car long enough u should know when the hell is the best time to shift, and you wont really need to have one. i HATE big fat tachs on peoples dashes. they are nice if you have a bad *** engine, dont see the point otherwsie. if you want a tach swap the cluster out with one that has it already stock so that you dont have a huge tach taking up space on your dash, i just dont like things visualy distracting me

My del Sol Si has a D16Z6 and my redline on the stock tach is about 7.2kRPM. I think the base S class del Sol has the d16y7 and I know it redlines at 6.4kRPM. Everything on my car is stock, and our engines are similar but I don't know if this'll help you but my redlines per gear per speed are the following:

1st: 27MPH
2nd: 59MPH
3rd: 90MPH
4th: > 120MPH (I've never gone more than 120 in fourth, still had about 1kRPM to go before the redline)
5th: no idea.

This probably isn't very helpful, but what I want to point out is that going 100MPH in 3rd gear might not be a good idea.
