My Custom Indcution Kit with Heat Shield - Euro 1.4 Civic
One for in particular the European members on here who are lucky enough to have the 1.4L d14a4 engined Civic! Its actually a very similar engine to the d16y7 really, just its got a shorter stroke. Same bore afaik.
Well, after months of playing about with different ideas, and gathering the bits n pieces i needed, then waiting until I had the money, Ive finally gotten my intake done! Below are a few pics of it and installation.
Piping is 3"diameter 316 Stainless Steel. Rubber connector to throttle body is off an M3(!!), Filter is big-*** K&N. Shield is also Stainless Steel.
The engines got a totally different feel now, much more torquey I think, it feels more secure everywhere in the revs, and Im fairly confident that its gained power above 4000rpm, and its got a lovely throaty induction roar, though it is fairly mannerly once you take it easy, but at about 4500-5000rpm & again at about 6500rpm it gives the sweetest beastly roar ever!
Btw, the reason the car is on jack stands is cos I got uprated main suspension bushings made and fitted in the same place that made up the Stainless steel piping and shield for me.
How it used to be(with Resonator box removed):
The feed hole:
Big-***** feed!: 150mm diameter feeding into the 75mm feed hole to create a little quicker flow of air at lower speeds.
Feed from outside(its zip tied to holes around the feedhole-thanks Honda!, and then to the bumper grill too)
Before the shield went on:
The finished article with shield:
The shield:
The shield & the feed underneath the filter:
Needs some time with brillo pads and scotchbrite soon as I get my exams over with next month, but im well pleased with it.
Bren
P.S. Admin/Mods - If this post is too server heavy I can put it all on a webpage and just link to it - just let me know.

Re: (Blade_Irl)
Havent dyno'd yet with the intake, but:
Had her on the rolling road dyno twice already:
Standard:
-97.6bhp @ 5590rpm, 95.8lbs torque (cant remember rpm tho ill dig out the results sheet)
With exhaust system: Custom Stainless Steel manifold back with de-cat and bore increased from 1&5/8's to 2" (downpipe was already 2" S/S!).And with a free flowing centerbox to keep the noise bearable.
-104.9bhp @6634rpm, 100lbs torque.
I reckon she'll hit about 110bhp now with the intake.
Not bad for a 1.4sohc engine is it?!
And i stayed away from the CAI setup not for hydro-lock reasons, but because the laws of physics say bad things about how a cai shud perform on road.
Ill be putting a second feed, 100mm diameter, from to the right of the radiator to the side of the shield when I get a chance - wil make a hole for it in the shield obviously.

to a custom intake setup that actually looks good, and the shield makes it more effective then just a filter in a stick...
Good job!

Re: (sixsk8)
Thanks for the props(ha! Im learning your lingo!). It will look even better when ive had time to polish it up.
"I say do a swap"
You wouldnt say that if you lived in Ireland and were a student working part time, and running costs of a even a 1.4 were: Insurance €2500/year, Road Tax: €250/year, Petrol: ~88c/litre, Honda Oil filter: €16, 5L oil: €27... I could go on. Suffice to say Ireland is a very different place to own a car compared to the US.

Re: (B16A6rex)
want some real power, put on a y8 manifold, or better ye a skunk2 intake manifold for a d16y8, i noticed alot more, when i put on my focus 2 intak manifold on my dx.
Heat shield looks good, nice work

Re: (Quad-Damge)
Yep, a DC Sports Stainless Steel D16y8 exhaust manifold is on the list for the summer if funds allow.
Not changing the intake manifold though as whatever I do the engine must look like ive not changed any major parts - insurance wise unfortunately.
Ill get away with the intake but not a different intake manifold - i.e. a linear one would be quite obvious.

Re: (EF9_SiR)
Whats MPFI???
and heres a pic of the whole car cos someone asked:
Not a great one sorry, a bit blurred, but it does manage to show up the true colour of the car under the lights. Mosts pics come out like the car is navy or a dull purple.
And specs so far are:
<ul>[*]16" OZ Superlegerras w/195-45-16 Toyo Proxes T1-S tyres[*]Koni Sports Adjustable Shocks(A.k.a: Koni "Yellows"), H&R Race Springs[*]Uprated main suspension bushings[*]Clifford G4 Concept 400 Alarm system w/remote start[*]Powerflow Stainless Steel manifold back zorst(exhaust is Ireland lingo!) w/de-cat. Bore increased from 1&5/8's" to 2".[*]Custom Stainless Steel Intake (3"diameter piping) w/large K&N filter located in corner of engine bay w/heat shield, &150mm diameter air feed from bumper through hole I drilled under filter(hole which is already there on your EX/Si's)[*]Colour Coded: Mirrors, door handles, rub strips, bumper corner strips, skirts, boot reg plate recess.[*]De-locked doors w/rear door handles off 4door.[*]Diamond cut clear side repeaters.[*]Sony VAP headunit & cd changer, Pioneer Speakers[/list]
And as regular treatment with Autoglym stuff as I have can!!
On the way: Replica CTR front lip, rear lip, Spoiler.
And I got a grill out of a scrapyard that im gona butcher() into a type R style grill!

And my car is MPFI. That just means its fuel injected as opposed to carb'd doesnt it?? Like that it has Fuel Injectors? Which it does.
As I said above I think, its basicly almost the same engine as the d16y7, just a shorter stroke, same bore I think.

no, decieving to the non updated honda enthusiest, but the mpfi, multi point fuel injected intake setups were killed in 1991, where the 92-95 cx/hx had smaller side draft intake manifolds with sequential fire, individual injectors, one per cylinder.
The older "MPFI" setups involved a centered downdrafted throttlebody injection system useing two injectors spraying 100% of the time, no pulse.
The 96-00 dx/cx intake manifolds used an almost exact replica of the older mpfi manifold, just one that has four injectors, sequential fire.
So thats why one might confuse the dx/cx manifold for the hf manifold used in the "economy" versions of the crx hf/dx civic.

Re: (4g4me)
Cheers for that. So from what you've said the injection system your EK Civic EX (d16y8??) is different to that of your EK DX/LX??
Yep its a pretty sweet colour, pretty rare too. Only prob is it gets dirty looking very easily and dirt really hides the colour more than it would Silver or Black or a plain colour.
