Default Is my clutch dying?

So I get in my car this morning and start it up. I realize there's next to no pedal pressure. I drive around, but there aren't any abnormal smells or sounds. Delivery of power to the wheels hasn't been noticeably changed. Maybe i'm just paranoid, but the pedal pressure is freakin' me out because right now I can't afford to have a new clutch installed.

It's a '94 Civic Si w/ 135k miles, BTW

If its the stock clutch, that could be it. Check your cable though.

135K miles what do you expect? Although my brother hit 160K on stock clutch in his 93 si

So in other words, there's a 95% chance that, whatever it is, it's gonna cost me an arm, a leg, and my first born child?

shouldnt be too much for a rebuilt one from autozone. try topping off the reservoir first.

if you dont have fluid, check under the dash where the clutch pedal/mastercylinder connect and see if its wet with fluid. If not, follow the clutch lines and see if you can find anything.

no cables in our eg+ cars. check for dampness, oily gunk where your clutch pedal assembly goes thru the firewall. it's a sign that your clutch MC is leaking. when the weather gets cold here, my clutch MC tends to leak a little.. ig ues its cause the rubber seal shrink a bit

When your clutch is going you tend to experience slippage. If pedal pressure problems is what you're experiencing and your clutch is hydraulic, odds are it's probably just a low fluid issue. If it's because of a leak it isn't usually expensive repairing the hydraulic parts. You've got to determine exactly what the problem is before you start jumping to "worst case scenario" conclusions.

Alright, someone told me to check the fluid resevior and that it's next to the brake fluid resevior. If the brake resevior is the bigger one, then there's next to no fluid in the clutch resevior.

As to dampness, I just checked the pedel area and up near the firewall on the pedel it felt like it was greasy, but not wet per se. nothing too crazy though

then top it up with regular brake fluid and check over the system looking for leaks.

mine does the same thing, its the slave cylinder, two bolts and a line. you can temp fix it by taking it apart and cleaning the cylinder out with a small hone and clean the seals, that will get you by unitl you save the money or get tired of filling up your clutch master cylinder. I stick with that second one, it give me a chance to check everything else to on a weekly basis. Until then carry extra brake fluid just in case.

Went to AutoZone and filled up the fluid level. Pressure is at a reasonable level now. I'll check for leaks tomorrow after my final. Thanks again guys

BTW, say I do have to replace the master cylinder...is that a DIY job for a novice with a shop manual? Or should I take it to a mechanic?

Almost anything under the hood is a DIY job with the time and a good manual. Good luck. Oh, when checking for leaks, pull the boot on the slave cylinder fwd, the fluid hides in there so you dont notice the leak that much.

Didn't expect it would take that long, i'm just saying that I have plenty of time to do it.
